BURT BACHARACH (Music). Legendary composer Burt Bacharach has helped define the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. His music is as diverse as his audiences, who consider him everything from one of the greatest of all composers to the "coolest cult hero" of the contemporary music set. The recipient of three Academy Awards®, six Grammys®, an inductee into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the recipient of other tributes ranging from the prestigious 2001 Polar Music Prize presented by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, to ASCAP's Founders Award and having his songs honored as being among the top of the century, Bacharach and his music continues to make history and establish trends. With 47 top ten hits and nine #1 songs, Bacharach and his music represent the essence of popular culture. The top-rated "American Idol" television series designated Bacharach to work with the aspiring singers in summer, 2002. Both Bacharach and his songs appear in all three "Austin Powers" films, and Diana Krall’s 2001 CD, The Look of Love, remained at #1 on the jazz charts for a full year. Bacharach was the co-musical director on the 72nd Academy Awards in March 2000. He had a top 10 CD released in the UK in 2001, and before that released the critically-acclaimed collaboration with Elvis Costello, Painted From Memory and its Grammy-winning single, "I Still Have That Other Girl." In popular music, the Bacharach/David partnership is legendary one, as well. The team won a Grammy for the Broadway musical Promises, Promises, and received the Trustees Award from NARAS as part of the Grammy Awards in 1997. Bacharach currently divides his time between composing, conducting and live performances worldwide.

He has also been elected to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Just recently, Mr. David was awarded the prestigious Grammy Trustees Award by NARAS, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. He was also recently honored with the esteemed British Ivor Novello Award (the first non-British person to ever receive the award). His Broadway show Promises,Promises received a Grammy, and was nominated for a Tony Award. The Encore Series in New York revived Promises,Promises at City Center.
