Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Sorry to change the subject for a moment but here's Trijntje Oosterhuis riffing at length on one of her signature BB tunes, "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?"

Re: Trijntje Sings Burt

Trijntje riffs on "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" at an outdoor concert in The Hague. Her vocal quality in this reminds me very much of Dionne Warwick, but the style is unmistakably Oosterhuis.

Re: Trijntje Sings Burt

Three alternate takes of "That's What Friends Are For" from last Saturday's concert. One of them seems filmed from a mile away but the vocal pickup is excellent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT0D8EkHglE Narrow, cellphone video but pristine sound until 3:25 or so, whereupon it becomes fru...

Re: Trijntje Sings Burt

T.O.'s latest concert included at least one BB song: This acoustic version of "That's What Friends Are For." We are not worthy.

Re: Dionne Warwick's voice

Although I would gladly go to see Dionne perform, doing so under the rubric of 'seeing an icon perform' makes me a trifle uncomfortable. (Shale-throated Wayne Newton has been dining out on that excuse for over a decade now, IMO.) Could we reframe the discussion around how Dionne sounds, as compared ...

Re: Burt loves Rumer - Do any of you?!

Rumer's musicianship seems beyond dispute. However -- and this is going to get me into trouble -- her interpretations of John Barry ("We Have All the Time in the World") and BB are so blase as to turn those songs into abstract music. For instance, her White House rendition of "A House...

Re: vegas and ivins anyone?

My wife and I will try to make it. Smith Center tix are a bit pricey for our budget ... but it's Burt! I am getting the missus subtly hooked on BB, using Trijntje's records as the "gateway drug." :-)

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

It's unfortunate that Kelly Clarkson's only representation here is from a pretty terrible three-singer rendition of "Say a Little Prayer" from midway through the competition. Here's her "Walk on By" from Bacharach Week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX8PSsHiLE8 BB chose "An...

Re: Trijntje Sings Burt

Traincha returns to the Heineken Music Hall on March 16. She's promoting her "Wrecks Me Adore" album, so it's an open question whether she'll sing any BB ... although it would be worth flying halfway around the world just to see this phenomenon in performance. For instance, while I think D...

Re: Trijntje Sings Burt

That's wonderful. Here's the 2009 telecast that formed the basis of Blue Note's two-CD "Best of Burt Bacharach" album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ40RIVLlnc Before I stumbled across this, in quest of contemporary Bacharach interpretations, I'd never heard of Trijntje Oosterhuis and no...
