Re: Buried bits of Burt

"Forever Blue" is such a great piece of work! But no one has yet mentioned this: It's a Jimmy Webb arrangement. He also arranged "Precious Words".

Grammys

The Grammys exist for the purpose of promoting the current stable of big pop stars, all those wriggling, jiggling, interchangeable faces and bodies whose primary function will be to promote clothing and cosmetics to the young target audience. Sorry, but it isn't much about the music anymore. The Ame...

Re: Remember?

Bill, Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment to convert the performances from the analogue VHS format to a digital one. Wish I did, since I have a couple more Bacharach performances on tape from TV that I'd like to digitize, in addition to the "Walking Tall" performance. -Dennis Webb DW...

Re: Remember?

I've always loved "Walking Tall" and am surprised that it didn't win an Oscar, and even more surprised that so few Bacharach fans seem to be familiar with it. I have a video tape of Burt and Lyle performing it on the Jay Leno Show and it's just a wonderful performance. Burt at the piano, d...

Re: Together Video Clip

Roberto,

A million thanks to you for posting this! This is one of my top ten BB compositions, and it's not even easy to find it in audio. Now here is this absolutely wonderful live performance from 1979. I wish this were available somewhere commercially.

Let's Pretend We're Grown Up

Tom, The three additional songs Burt wrote for a movie musical version of "Promises, Promises" that never materialized are: "Let's Pretend We're Grown Up", "Tick Tock Goes the Clock", and "What Am I Doing Here". All three are available on the CD "Broadway...

"Joanna"

Thanks for this lovely song and a fine, sensitive performance.

As I listened to Scott Walker sing this piece, his style reminded me so much of Tony Bennett. Does anyone else hear what I'm hearing?

Nicolette Larsen

From the first time I heard "Fool Me Again" I just thought she was a terrific interpreter of BB. I looked around to see if she had recorded any other BB/HD songs but never found any (until "Mexican Divorce" right here). She certainly does have a one-of-a-kind voice. I wish BB had...

Nothing less than the end of an era, I think.

Here's a fine rendering of "Nessun Dorma" with James Levine conducting:

I don't know whether anyone has posted this yet. It's Burt and Cilla Black's recording session video for her "Alfie". I've seen excerpts of this before, but never this longer version:

There are so many good intros, but my vote goes to the lovely, melancholy piano intro to Dionne's "Here I Am" with the gentle guitar chords and that little bit of strings just audible down low. Is there anything sadder?

re: In the Style of Burt

Grooverider, Thanks for the info. I'll look for the Byrds and check out the DS compilation. I have a three-CD set of her recordings, but if the one you mention has any additional Burt or CK songs on it, then it's something I want to get. I need to compare the contents, which should be easy online. Y...
