any news about "Gift of the Magi"
If I'm not mistaken, the new BB/SS musical, "Gift of the Magi" is supposed to be playing in San Diego, beginning later this month. Are there any site members out there who have more information? Will any of you be attending a performance? Would love to hear how things go...

Re: What we need ...
I heard something, can't remember where, that bothers me a bit. What I heard was that the song "Come in Ogni Ora" which Burt wrote for the Italian singer Karima Ammar, was being inserted (in English) into "The Gift of the Magi." Maybe I'm being too much of a theater purist, but I...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
While it's not a 21st century tune, I think "On My Way," from the film, "Isn't She Great?" was a later tune, written by Burt and Hal for Dionne in 1997 or 1998. She sings it on the sound track for the CD.

Re: Rumer sings BURT
I may be wrong, but I don't think Burt wrote that song, "Slow." It's on Rumer's debut album; before that album debuted, she released a smaller work called "Rumer Sings Burt" which included "Alfie" and a new song he wrote for the new-show-in-the-works, "The Gift of ...

First time I heard this song!
Here's Burt tune I'd NEVER heard before, nor even heard OF. I think Randy Crawford has a gorgeous voice. Another hidden gem!

another little-sung favorite
As a young man, I had only heard Burt's orchestral version of this song, and didn't know for some time that Dionne had sung it as well. I think it's a terrific piece with a breezy Brazilian feel. In this video, unfortunately, the original posting person has put a weird voice over towards the end - I...

another under-rated song?
Here's another song which, while not among my very favorite Burt songs, still has, I think, a kind of quintessential "bacharach sound." It's by Burt with Carole; most here I'm sure have heard it before. "Extravagant Gestures" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISEwb6Z6Sd4&feature...

Re: Clip from On the Flip Side
I, too, think it's a terrific score. It's emblematic of Burt and Hal's work as they were nearing the pinnacle of popular success, and a wider awareness by the public of their prodigious talent. I have the CD of the score that was released a few years ago and don't tire of listening. I especially lik...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
This is one of my all-time favorite Burt songs, "I Just Have to Breathe." I don't have - and couldn't find on YouTube - a recording of Dionne singing it, but here's Shirley Bassey.

Is this song by Burt?
I was listening to Dionne and Jeffrey Osborne doing "Take Good Care of You and Me" on YouTube, and the video showed clips of Burt and Carole. Did they really write that song? I don't think I had realized that before.

Thanks to the August 7th Gang
Thanks guys, for all the insider details that give those of us unable to be there, a sense of what it was like. So glad everyone enjoyed the show, and it's great to hear Burt continues to be such a gentle, professional and considerate man. We really are blessed, as you said, Vince!

anyone else notice the similarities?
I've been listening to new relatively new Burt songs off of YouTube, and I notice some similarities between them. I'm talking about "Pennies in a Jar" and "Come in Ogni Ora." It's the feel, occasional chord progressions and melodic phrases. They're all typical of Burt. I like the...

Re: Sandie Shaw - Girl Don't Come
I found it on YouTube and listened. Really cool song and VERY like Burt's stuff. I never heard of it before and have never seen it mentioned in a review of Burt's catalog, but it's obvious the author - if not, indeed Burt himself - was imitating him. The trombone parts are very reminiscent of "...

Re: These songs, and more, need more exposure.
In a recent interview, Burt said something to the effect that he hoped true songwriting would survive. He noted the dominance of techno-driven club music on the airwaves. While I can enjoy that kind of sound for a while, I don't come away from it humming anything; there are few lyrics to remember, l...

a cover of "If I Could Go Back"
For those of us who admire Burt and Hal's score from the unfortunate "Lost Horizon," here's a cover of this very different song from the score, a song which is rarely covered. It's by Andy Williams; perhaps someone has already posted it here, but I thought new listeners might appreciate he...
