Re: Jackie DeShannon Revisited

I agree BtoB about Dusty's interpretations of Bacharach songs .. I too liked 'Wishin and Hopin' something crisp about it. I sadly havn't heard Jackie DeShannon singing for ages but will get this new album for sure.

Re: Dionne gets another put down on BBC2 Desmond Carrington

Absolutely! I listened again to it tonight. I also got a reply from the Desmond Carrington show saying that he was a great fan of Dionne Warwick but not to the exclusion of everyone else and that he preferred the new singers styling on 'Windows of the World' to Dionne's .. I thought it was decent of...

Dionne gets another put down on BBC2 Desmond Carrington

Couldn't believe it tonight .. cooking the supper, pouring the wine when Desmond Carrington on BBC2 played a new recording by unknown new singer badly singing 'What The World Needs Now'. Not a great interpretation I must say, slow and unconvincing. Desmond .. who I am convinced has a thing against D...

Re: A review of the show 'The Sounds of Burt Bacharach'

Sorry .. the show sounds dreadful and not anywhere near the true spirit or even close to the class of Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

Re: Dionne Warwick and Rob Shrock playing at Blue Note 6/02/11

Yes I agree. It's a shame really. I'm not a fan of the duets either and much prefer Dionne's solo recordings. Some of the songs, post Bacharach and during the Arista years, are really good and hopefully will survive the test of time. Some of them will like Heartbreaker, That's What Friends Are For (...

Re: Dionne Warwick and Rob Shrock playing at Blue Note 6/02/11

Did Dionne do one or two duets albums? One with the ladies and one with the gents? I've heard the one with the ladies but not the gents .. didn't she record with George Benson and others on it? Many thanks.

Re: Dionne Warwick and Rob Shrock playing at Blue Note 6/02/11

Many thanks Blair and B2B for such stimulating stuff!! Do you have any idea why Dionne isn't inducted into the RRHOF? Seems odd when there others in it with only half of her credentials. I like the blog from the Bluffer's Guide and love those edgy songs too. It's a pity about the Arista years althou...

Re: Rumer

I hear what you are saying B2B .. I think it's all about sex! Dionne had this yearning sound which the other ladies don't quite reach .. as fabulous as their voices are. Dionne still has it at 70. It's a quality of loss, yearning and love which is very appealing to listen to. Plus she always has the...

Re: notes from the tour

Hi Roberto .. thank you for posting this but with all due respect, it's not to my liking. So few people seem to 'lift' Burt's songs and bring them really to life. I think it's a lot to do with phrasing and timing. I thought Isaac Hayes struggled a bit as well in this respect. I thought the song you ...

Rumer

Have just seen Rumer at Glastonbury .. her voice reminded me of Karen Carpenter .. she was brave being up there on the Pyramid Stage. Few years ago I saw Joan Baez on a smaller stage at Glastonbury. It was one of the best evenings of music I have had in my life!

Wow! Thanks for that. Let's hope this lady has a long and successful career ahead of her. So far she seems to have both feet firmly on the ground.

Re: Sandie Shaw - Girl Don't Come

Thank you for the feedback steve and groovefinder ... I remember the name Chris Andrews and I think he also wrote 'Message Understood' for Sandie Shaw as well? Perhaps more? I have to admit he really inhabited the Bacharach sound of the mid 6o's era on 'Girl Don't Come'. Those brass introductions ar...

Sandie Shaw - Girl Don't Come

Does anyone know if this great Sandie Shaw number, 'Girl Don't Come', is a Burt Bacharach song? It sounds so much like his. I think it is one of her best songs from the 60's .. so cool sounding.
