Re: BLUE MAGIC: NEW OBSESSION OF THE MONTH

geoff85, I'm a big fan of this music. It's simply terrific and timeless! Gamble & Huff, and Bell are truly GREAT songwriters. Did anyone post this one, which is one of my all-time favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJTxnxXUMA0 How about that arrangement? How about that bass player? James...

I like Herb Alpert's whirlwind version of 'Promises, Promises', not the easiest tune to play even slowly with all those time changes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux67Fm6IPkA He didn't play it as written, the tempo was horrendous, the meter was off in many instances, and it's the worst version I...

Re: Further Degradation of the Gershwin Award

Is this award open to Canadians? I've always thought that Gordon Lighfoot's chord changes were too sophisticated and his lyrics a tad too cryptic for him to be labelled as a folk singer-songwriter. The series of albums he recorded on Warners in the late 60s to the mid-70s were beautifully written, ...

Does anyone know this "Frankie Presto" that Burt's talking about ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuP5BrjeOxY "blue" Frankie Presto is a totally fictional character written by the writer Mitch Albom and Burt is making up that whole story to help promote the book shown here in t...

I'm surprised that you don't see the greatness of Aretha's voice and singing, as was exhibited in song after song after song for so many years. As for Dee Dee, she was better than most but she didn't have the pipes that Dionne had, and Dionne's version of "Alfie" simply can't be bettered -...

Re: Monk B`day Broadcast on KCR

I have most of his recordings anyway. "Ugly Beauty" may be my favorite jazz composition of them all. A true musical genius. Burt was a fan also and mentions him. How could he not?

Alfie by Warwick

No, not Dionne... but her sister, Dee Dee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKv99zqU1HY Question: Dionne's real last name is Warrick. The story goes that on Dionne's first record her name was misspelled as "Warwick." So that means that Dee Dee's last name is Warrick. So did she intentionally...

Dionne on her son's TV show

Start at 12:35.

I find this segment to be very weird and no offense intended but Dionne appears to be out of it. What do you think?

Re: Red Alert

I love Burt and I love what he's doing. He's continuing to compose music and get his shows produced -- which is now happening! If he's going out of his way to do anything, then he's going out of his way to remain vital and productive even well into his 80's. God bless Burt Bacharach! I've heard 2 so...

Re: The Wrecking Crew

Thanks, grooverider, because I was trying to think of Carol Kaye's name yesterday and I couldn't remember it (and I didn't take the 2 seconds to look it up on the 'net either). But I did want to mention that I'm a big fan of hers. As far as I'm concerned, she's right up there with James Jamerson on ...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Enormous, Great to hear Burt's music is still knocking 'em dead after all these years ! It's wonderful to see young people admiring the songs of Bacharach and David. "blue" So very true, blue. Based on the (mostly) horrible pop songs that make it big these days, I figured that an apprecia...
