Re: Dionne in Brooklyn

Hi all, everybody should be pleased to hear that Dionne was indeed in fine
voice last Thursday night in Brooklyn. Looking trim and as regal as ever, Dionne sailed through a truncated set of around 75-80 minutes (no "Heartbreaker", no encore) and brought the house, er, park to its feet. It's too bad that Dionne is supported only by a small band; not having so much as one horn player severely diminishes the impact of her Bacharach-and-David-strong set. One friend commented that, for Dionne's terrific set and true rapport with the audience, it seemed like a "casino show". This is a large result of the synthesized arrangements, however well-played they were (and they were!). How I would love the opportunity to see the Divine Miss W with a full orchestra, or even a Chicago-style horn section who could do Burt and Hal's work total justice, flugelhorns, muted trumpets and all! Of course, I'd love even more the opportunity to see Burt and Dionne together in concert.....BTW, there's a fine 2-disc compilation of Dionne's greatest hits available for a very reasonable $25.00 at the concerts. Two full discs full of her hits off both Scepter and Arista, and therefore the only extensive compilation of its kind. No liner notes, but this will have to do until Rhino decides to do a Dionne box or The Complete Dionne Sings Bacharach box.....
