Burt's Best Soundtrack

Since I was a kid, I loved the movie "What's New, Pussycat?" I just adored the music, but as a young child, didn't appreciate the genious behind it. Now I know! Without a doubt, "Pussycat" is my pick for his best. Who can resist a Kazzoo???

I still think it is a wonderful and very funny movie with the greatest soundtrack ever. I remember taking a tape recorder and holding it up to the TV to record " My Little Red Book" and "Here I Am". And wishing that I was half as beautiful as Capuccine!!!

On a slightly different note- I am absolutely amazed at the songs that Burt wrote. Songs that I have loved for my whole life. "Rain drops" was the first song I ever knew the words to. But at 3 years old, I just could not appreciate the writer!! I do believe that there ARE four Bs.....Bach, Bethoven, Brahms and Bacharach.

I vote for Casino Royale because of the main title theme brings me back
to a warm and sunny place in my life. I have both the movie and soundtrack, and I enjoy them. I'm also a big James bond fan and this
may be part of the reason I voted this way.

Steve, I care a lot about what you have to say. Thanks for everything. But -- or, more precisely, because of that -- would you mind telling me/us what you think of the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid stk (and maybe elaborating on your fondness for Casino Royale)? I much prefer it to the Casino Royale stk, although there are incredibly beautiful musical ideas in it and I like it very, very much. Several tracks leave me wanting more, much more. My father can never get enough of Sir James'Trip To Find Matta... That album certainly has genious written all over it. But still...

We agree on Make It Easy on Yorself, by the way. (If you are in the mood maybe you could explain why it is a favorite of yours. I always try to understand why I like what I like -- especially Bacharach -- as much as I do. I think it's been working for me, though I remain not technically trained.)

Thanks for your interest in my opinion. Actually, although Ii saw Casino
Royale on its first run at a drive in with my then gf Diane, it didn't
become a favorite soundtrack for me until several years later.
I actually bought the Butch Cassidy album first, and dug on that for a
while.It wasn't long tho, before i started exploring older albums by Burt,
including"The Man"(early version of Burt Bacharach Plays his hits.) I
actually heard the cut "Last One To Be Loved for the first time at Brian Wilson's house on his "Dual" brand record player.
I later started grooving on the album Casino Royale. All of this was tied into my fascination of becoming a composer myself and running into Burt in Hollywood. He was like a big brother to me who had made it "Big"..
His music was(and is) gorgeous... Needless to say, I really idolized him.
Musically, I think that Casino Royale offers a variety of material ,tempos, and different moods. The beauty of "Sir James Trip To Find Mata"(although the actual music score title is different) is just such a thing of beauty-the slow part where the low strings are in 10ths and the high strings are switching around with different intervals..I mean like wow! what a knockout.! How much more sexy can you get with Dusty singing The "Look of Love"...all of those sustained chords...sheesh..fantastic!
So, when it comes to Burt and the 60's(including Butch Cassidy)
all of the soundtracks are great..it's just a matter of personal preference.
I grabbed onto "the Make it Easy on Yourself album right when it first came out...and just fell in love with the way all the arrangements were done..the way the whole album was produced..so different than anything else i had heard at that time..the oboe at the end of "Knowing When To Leave"..all of the pulsing rhythms..the dynamics swelling to a double forte on the hook of that song!
To re-iterate..i felt that all of the Butch Cassidy material was
inter-related, all kind of integrated into a similar package..whereby Casino offered more variety.
Again..all great stuff!!! All a matter of personal preference.

It has to be 'After The Fox', without a doubt.

I guess he 's never been very interested in writing (film) scores.

The single with Peter Sellers and the Hollies? "After the Fox"is amazing alright! Great camp!

I think that Lost Horizons has to be one of the best soundtracks ans was just a bit before its time.
The fact that so many people remember the songs and the lyrics all these years later, tells me that these songs will have a long life.

Why Together?
Because the lyrics and music are heartbreakin`
Songs like Find Love, I don`t need you anymore and Ive got my mind made up are such a great songs.
This album is in the same line as Woman.
I never saw the movie but i liked the soundtrack.
As always the music of Burt are very strong on this soundtrack!
