IMHO one of the most beautiful (and overlooked) songs Burt and Hal ever wrote.....

My guess is that it is a very underrated song, and yet it is not among my favorite among Burt's.

Was I'm A Better Man written for Engelbert?

How about these other two?

Nothing In This World -
(album is from 2001) - was it you, blue, who directed us to this one a while back? I'm glad someone did...

Love Was Here Before The Stars
- don't know how I became aware of this one. (Sounds like a James Bond movie song, to me.)

Hi Rio,
You may be right, "I'm A Better Man" could well have been written for Engelbert.....
I can't think of many other versions, although Mantovani's instrumental rendition is superb !

Dave Koz (with Herb Alpert and an appearance by Herb Alpert's wife, Lani Hall) singing and performing, "This Guy's in Love With You" in a video for marriage equality:

It's great to see Herb Alpert performing on a song that was such a big hit for him! What a wonderful gesture to Dave Koz.

Roberto, is this the same tune Dionne Warwick recorded in around 1997 for her Dionne Sings Dionne album? I seem to have heard this before although I don't quite remember if this tune is on that album..that CD is tucked away somewhere...not one of my favorite efforts by Dionne, by the way. Sandi's version is pretty.

BachtoBacharach:

YES - this was recorded by Dionne for the "Dionne Sings Dionne" project (one of the better cuts on the CD - I've always liked it!)

This is one of my all-time favorite Burt songs, "I Just Have to Breathe." I don't have - and couldn't find on YouTube - a recording of Dionne singing it, but here's Shirley Bassey.

I believe that Zoot Money was the first Brit to cover 'Please Stay', the arrangement of which the Crying Shames adapted for their UK hit version in '66. I actually saw Zoot Money perform a week or so ago playing 2nd keyboard and adding the occasional harmony vocal as part of Alan Price's band. I did wonder as the gig went on whether Zoot (real name George) would perform 'Please Stay, but in an almost Agatha Christie type twist Alan Price sang it alone at the Hammond organ with Zoot off stage drinking at the bar! Here's Zoot's version from the mid-60s:
