JOSE, CA, June, 2003 ˆ "McCormick Presents Burt Bacharach Tribute
on Ice," a NBC television special combining the musical talents of
Bacharach, Aretha Franklin, James Ingram and Michael McDonald with the
ice skating artistry of Brian Boitano, Ilia Kulik and Nicole Bobek, among
others, will be taped Saturday, September 20, at the HP Pavilion in San
Jose. The program will air on NBC-TV on Saturday, December 20, from 4-6
PM (EST). Bacharach,
one of the most-acclaimed and popular composers of all time, has won three
Academy Awards and six Grammys. He has had 47 top ten hits and nine #1
songs and received the 1997 Trustees Award from NARAS, ASCAPs Founders
Award and the prestigious 2001 Polar Music Prize presented by His Majesty
King Carl XVI of Sweden. Bacharachs worldwide anthem, "Thats
What Friends Are For," has raised more than $1.5 million for AIDS
research, and his three recent appearances on TVs top-rated "American
Idol" have resulted in a new hit cast recording of "What The
World Needs Now Is Love," which is raising money for the American
Red Cross. He was the co-musical director for the 72nd Annual Academy
Awards, and has appeared in all three "Austin Powers" films.
Bacharachs other honors range from being named one of the "Sexiest
Men Alive" by PEOPLE Magazine (2000) and one of PEOPLEs "50
Most Beautiful People"(1999), to induction into the Songwriters Hall
of Fame. Bacharach
will perform the entire show live with his band and singers. He will sing
his classic song, "Alfie," in concert with a skating performance
by 1988 Olympic Gold Medallist Boitano. Grammy winner and multi-platinum
artist Michael McDonald will sing two Bacharach songs, "On My Own"
and "Make it Easy on Yourself." Three-time Grammy-winner Ingram
will perform Bacharachs "A House is not a Home." Franklin
will tape a new song from her upcoming CD, "Falling Out of Love,"
which will air on the NBC telecast. (MORE)
