I just received Rhino’s new The Very Best of Burt Bacharach. While I would definitely quibble with a few of the selections (why no “This Guy’s In Love With You”?), this affordable, 16-track distillation of The Look of Love: The Burt Bacharach Collection is an excellent introduction to Burt’s music for the quasi- or would-be fan and Patrick Milligan and Alec Cumming are to be saluted for

their typically meticulous work on the liner and production notes.

Bacharach has been a principal player on the international music scene since his debut in the late 1950’s, producing a host of timeless classics stemming from his infallible feeling for powerful, memorable and unmistakably personal melodies and for brilliantly designed harmony.

Robert Moog Citation
Robert Moog is being awarded the Polar Music Prize for 2001 for his design of the MiniMoog, the first compact, easy-to-use synthesizer, which paved the way to the realm of electronic sounds that has revolutionized all genres of music during the past half-century.

(More..)
Karlheinz Stockhausen Citation Karlheinz Stockhausen is being awarded the Polar Music Prize for 2001 for a career as a composer that has been characterized by impeccable integrity and never-ceasing creativity, and for having stood at the forefront of musical development for fifty years. Performances at today?s event in Cannes were given by Lisa Miskovsky – a Max Martin prot?g? and co-writer of the Backstreet Boys latest hit, Shape of My Heart; Kelly Levesque – a new Reprise (Warner) label signing, and Laura Pausini – who, following tremendous success in her home-country Italy and in Latin-speaking countries, is poised to become known as a major artist worldwide.

Hello all. I updated Burt’s touring schedule via Pollstar, but I hope to get off an e-mail this week for the official word from Burt’s publicist as to whether we can expect any other shows. Also, I finally added Robert’s incredible collection of rare, obscure Bacharach lyrics and tablature (chords actually) to the lyrics and chords section. Right now, it’s just a directory of raw text files and they’re not listed on the main page, but I’m hoping to do that soon now that I’ve figured out another problem that kept me away from here for the past couple of months.

I’m trying to catch up on back e-mail, too, so apologies on that end if you haven’t gotten a personal response from me. As Jackie Gleason might say, call me irresponsible.
