Happy first day of Fall.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I haven’t had much news in the pipeline as of late. I’m hoping to get an updated tour itinerary in the next few days, so keep an eye out for that. Does anyone have any info on Burt Bacharach In Concert? A sealed copy of the LP recently went for $38 on eBay. It was the first time that I’ve seen it for sale anywhere. How rare is it?

Two recent releases, both on Sept. 21, worth mentioning are Bill Frisell’s The Sweetest Punch: Songs of Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach (Decca) and The Instrumental Side of Burt Bacharach (Varese Sarabande), a release I know nothing about (there are no tracks listed on its Amazon page).

Also, I picked up a songbook titled “Famous Songs by Bacharach and David,” which–title notwithstanding–features a treasure trove of rare compositions, many of which are unfamiliar to me. I’ll try to post lyrics in the near future, but among the selections are such obscure numbers as “And This Is Mine,” “Anonymous Phone Call,” “The Breaking Point,” “Country Music Holliday,” “Don’t Count the Days,” “Dont Envy Me,” “Faker, Faker,” “Forever Yours I Remain,” “The Hangman,” “I Fell in Love with your Picture,” “In Times Like These,” “It Seemed So Right Last Night,” “the Last Time I Saw My Heart,” “Love Lessons,” “Make Room for the Joy,” “Moon Man,” “The Net,” “Oh Wendy Wendy,” “Oooh My Love,’ “Peggy’s in the Pantry,” “Presents from the Past,” “Saturday Night in Tiajuana,” “Say Goodbye,” “Sittin in a Tree House,” “Somebody Else’s Sweetheart,” “That Kind of Woman,” “Warm and Tender,” “Underneath the Overpass,” “Winter Warm, “With Open Arms,” “Wonderful to be Young” and “You’re Telling our Secrets.”

Ice Magazine reports that 20th Century Masters/The Millennium Collection (A&M) will be released on July 20 and the long-awaited Promises, Promises original cast recording reissue will be released on Aug.

3. These come on the heels of the The Look of Love: Classic Love Songs of Burt Bacharach(Hip-O), which was released on June 1, and The Reel Burt Bacharach (Hip-O), which was released on June 22.

And in some exciting news, a corespondent wrote to inform us that Burt will headline a free concert in New York at Coney Island’s Seaside Park on Thursday, July 29. The show is part of the 21st annual Seaside Concert Series, a series of free summer concerts at the park that is coordinated through the office of New York state Senator Marty Markowitz with the help of corporate donations. Doors open at 6 and the show starts at 7:30. Comedian Mal Z. Lawrence will open the show. For more information on the show, visit the Seaside Concert Series Website.

Bob Fead of the Burt Bacharach Music Group reports that Burt has just finished scoring the Universal film Isn’t She Great, a biopic based on the life of Valley of the Dollsauthor Jacqueline Susann and starring Bette Midler and Nathan Lane. Vanessa Williams will sing the end title, Chicago has recorded a track entitled “If I Should Lose You” and Dionne will perform a song. The film is due to be released this fall.

It’s been reported to me that the June 27 show listed on Burt’ s touring

schedule is not a Bacharach performance but in fact a tribute to Bacharach. You’ve been warned. For your information, the dates that feature a venue name came from Bob. The dates that have hypertext links to Tickets.com and Ticketmaster listings came from Web searches. Why the two sources don’t coincide, I don’t know.

Alberto Gerolimetto sent in three photos of he and Burt in Milan in 1996. He also sent in two two Bacharach midi files, which I’ll also post. Eventually. I’ve never been a huge fan of midi files, but if there’s enough interest, I’ll gladly start a Bacharach midi archive, if one doesn’t already exist. Let me know what you think.

Call Off the Wedding (Without a Groom There Can’t Be a Bride)–Babs Tino

Who’s Been Sleeping in My Bed–Linda Scott

The above tracks are two more MP3 from the Japanese compilation Burt Bacharach Songbook. Enjoy.
