Re: This is what I'm talking about!

Yes, it's one of the many good stories concerning Marlene in the book.

Re: The maestro in Edinburgh

Yes it has, Alistair. BB seemed very excited at the prospect of writing more songs with Elvis Costello when he talked about the musical during the Festival Hall concert last week. This is a man who refuses to rest on his laurels!

Re: in London

Why link David Smyth's snide London Evening Standard review and give him the oxygen of publicity? I personally would think twice about giving him the oxygen of oxygen.

Re: in London

Sara knows I echo everything she wrote about the concert because we met afterwards but, yes, I thought the three vocalists really came into their own on Wednesday night and it was great that they were given more songs performed in their entirety to really get their teeth into. It was especially good...

Re: Burt`s book

I got the book last Friday and read it to a finish over the weekend. For my liking there’s far too much on his personal life and not nearly enough on his career, although I suppose that’s what the publishers wanted. Career related stories in the book that haven’t already been in the public domain fo...

Re: Burt`s book

After reading the initial response to the book on here I don't think I'll have any problem waiting until June to read it. When a life of 85 years and a career of almost 60 as one of America's most successful and celebrated composers is condensed in an autobiography to a mere 300 or so pages you know...

Re: A few Burt tibbits

I see that the only format that BB's book is available in the UK on May 07th is Large Print Paperback. For both Hardcover and Kindle we have to wait until early June. Perhaps this has something to do with the concert dates in the UK later in June when he'll no doubt be all over the airwaves promotin...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

'The Love too Good to Last', one of the few Bacharach/Bayer Sager songs I really loved and just about the first one they wrote together (with Peter Allen). This is the wonderful Pointer Sisters version which Bacharach also arranged and which featured on the soundtrack of 'Nightshift': http://www.you...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Pljms, apparently the Crying Shames version of 'Please Stay' was adapted from an earlier recording by Zoot Money, including the change in the lyrics, and I think it's that version that Elvis Costello based his rendition on. Curiously, I saw Zoot Money playing Hammond and occasionally singing as part...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I've long thought that 'Paper Mache'' is one of Bacharach's most beguiling melodies (and chord progression) and here is a very rare cover of the song by Dutch singer Rita Reys from her '.........sings Burt Bacharach' album from the early 70s. Yet another title from that extremely long list of Bachar...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

My old vinyl copy of the Kaleidoscope World album has just been joined by the CD version in recent days. The instrumental Kaleidoscope Affair has undoubted BB touches to it but ultimately owes more to the film music of John Barry.

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

I know the band Swing Out Sister have been mentioned on this forum more than a few times for their obvious Bacharach influence. I don't know whether their song 'You On My Mind' has ever been posted here before but here it is anyway, although this probably owes just as much to Jimmy Webb and Tony Hat...
