Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

I think everyone who made valuable contributions in response to me posting Laura Nyros song should delete their message and start a new thread. I love threads that stay on topic. Sweet blindness is an awesome song that doesnt sound anytihing like a Bacharach song. Laura Nyro deserves her own thread ...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

One correction, Geoff: Laura Nyro never worked in the Brill Building and wrote songs only for herself. So many of those that appeared on her first two albums were commercially successfully covered by others causes some now to think that she was a professional "hit - maker" in the mode of ...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

I have been on a Todd Rundgren spree. Cant you tell? I hear a bit of Bacharach influence(by way of Laura Nyro) here as well as some Lieber/Stoller in the very beginning as well as some Holland/Dozier. You guys agree with me? Here is Todd Rundgren song baby lets swing(which is a dedication to Laura N...

Songs Bacharach fans would appreciate(Old School)

This thread is different than another song like Bacharach in that it showcases artists that make beautiful music that simply showcases artistry that can be appreciated by someone who would appreciate the complexity of a Bacharach tune. Of course everything is subjective but still.... Il start with a...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

For me the only rival to Bacharach who ever lived was Laura Nyro who herself was influenced by Bacharach her fellow Brill Building composer and one the many artists Nyro influenced the greatest effects can be seen in Todd Rundgren. So it seems even with six degrees of separation it sounds like we ar...

Re: Was it Dionne or was it Burt/Hal?

This was a symbiotic relationship where the divorce of any of parties could have caused the magic to suffer. History itself showed this. Bacharach's music fell flat or often times seemed indulgent or even corny without Hal's witty lyrics riding those unique and ever shifting time signatures. Dionne ...

Johnny Mathis Warm and Tender

I find this song so innovative for 1957. Is Mathis singing tritones? What am i hearing? Anyway i wanted to know if Lieber and Stoller had a hand in the production. This song sounds like a Bacharach composition produced by them. Around 1957 Bacharach was one of the main assistant composers to Lieber/...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

I always thought this was a Bacharach composition.....wrong again ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ggqa5FeKWak 'blue' The production can pass for a Bacharach knockoff but there is a certain magic missing. Its like a composer said let us make something that Burt would make for Dionne and did their ...

Re: Most complex Bacharach song ever

So colleagues, what do you think it is most complex BB song ever? You will all say Promises Promises with its changing time signatures, but I'd like to propose Captives of the Heart - layer after layer of sound and rhythms. "Captives" is a nice song, and certainly complex, but it doesn't ...

Blair N. Cummings wrote:I agree completely with all but "Kotter" theme. Burt has influenced so many otherwise mediocre composers.
Kotter theme gives me that Everybodys Outta Town vibe.

If you had a good engineer you would really be onto something. This really captures that late 60's/early 70's Burt vibe.

Burt could have wrote all the opening songs for 70' sitcoms(RIP Mar y Tyler Moore)

Well i wasnt alive to see them during the day but its the first thing that comes to mind when i see the reruns. Mary Tyler Moore died today and silly me never knew that her theme song for her self titled show was written back then as id always heard the new mellenium pop rock version in commercials....

Re: Essra Mohawk an obscure gem similar to Laura Nyro

Because of the generation I was born into I have to do alot of my own digging and unearthing of these gems so that is commonplace for me but to know that Essra is obscure to the aficianados of her own generation is mind blowing( Laura as well). I will look into Bonnie and welcome any other references.
