Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Barbara Streisands starting here starting now(A Richard Maltby/David Shire production) sounds the most like a Bacharach song if ever I ever heard one. Its literally Wanting Things with a few key changes and different lyrics.

The best version of "The Way We Were"

Doesn't belong to Barbara Streisand imo. I am partial to Eydie Gorme's various versions. In some circles that could be blasphemous but i feel the sentiment of the song more when Eydie sings it. She is probably one of the best singers of all time. It is a pity she became more of a variety act and neve...

Im obsessed with Brenda Reid from The Exciters voice!!

I think Dusty Springfield is quoted as saying when she first heard Brenda's voice on tell him she was stopped in her tracks and decided she was going to travel to America and pursue soul, and thank god she did. The Exciters are for the most part overlooked in comparison to many of the girl groups of...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

The Brill Building productions of the early 60s could be a bit incestuous. Once again another Goffin/KIng song that could pass for Bacharach/Hilliard song. I hear shades of Any Day Now. What do you guys think?

The most beautiful Goffin/King song is a rarity

God bless the Al Gore's internet. I truly thought i knew most of Carole King/Gerry Goffins better work but the best song they ever wrote is pretty much unknown. Its Where Does Love Go?, by Freddie Scott. It's probably one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard in my life and just heard it today. G...

Re: Who is Bacharach's second best writing partner?

A special mention for Carole Bayer Sager, if only for her collaboration with Burt on her sublime album 'Sometimes Late At Night'. I was gonna put a disclaimer that she can't be considered but then i listened to Arthurs Theme and Heartlight and it softened up my heart but Thats What friends are for ...

Re: Who is Bacharach's second best writing partner?

I think it`s very much up for debate (however heretical) that Hal was Burt`s best lyricist - albeit indisputably his most commercially successful. I`ve always thought it regrettable that Burt never had a partner with the sophistication of a Larry Hart or a Cole Porter. I understand that these men w...

.....and who could forget ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Rrp3Zvzl20 'blue' Omg so weird you posted this. I've been on a Tami Terrell binge all weekend. What a beauty with an angelic voice but a heartbreakingly sad sad story smh. The song ive been singing all weekend is if this world were mine w...

Re: Who is Bacharach's second best writing partner?

Another notable song Bacharach wrote with Sydney Shaw was the far from dreamy and in fact very jazzy Out Of My Continental Mind. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GoeSjRcnuzM Bob Hilliard would get my nomination as Bacharach's best collaborator after Hal David and out of the twenty-six songs they wrote...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Freddie Scotts Hey Girl written by Brill Building alumn Carole King/Gerry Goffin sounds like an early 60s Bacharach composition especially in the ryhthm section.

'blue'
Bob Hilliard was from the classic years. Sidney Shaw precedes even Hilliard. I do like that Elvis Costello helped Bacharach ressurrect that 60's and 70s sound. I wish he never lost it.

Who is Bacharach's second best writing partner?

If you notice I asked for second not the best. It is not up for debate that Hal David is his best songwriting partner by every metric you could think of. I myself am very partial to his earlier work with Sidney Shaw, especially the songs written for Johnny Mathis which ironically used as the titles ...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Three Degrees " lonelier are he fools" which was written by Thom Bell's, an already confirmed Bacharach fan/admirer, protege's. This one is probably not as obvious as songs usually posted. But the piano chords from 250 to 255 as well as throughout other part of the song remind me of the wi...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Teddy Randazzo's "you dont need a heart" sounds classically Randazzoish while having alot of elements you would hear in a Bacharach song. Considering that Randazzo started out before Bacharach i wonder if Randazzo is one of the few pop producers who may have influenced Bacharach. Anybody k...
