Re: Rhino's "Look of Love" turns 25
This year also marks the 25th anniversary of Bacharach's "One Amazing Night" concert. I drove to NYC from Boston, sat in a nosebleed seat beyond a loudmouth who yammered throughout (annoying everyone around him),and then drove back to Boston the same night. Of course, it was all worth it ...

Re: Rhino's "Look of Love" turns 25
I still owe a huge debt to Patrick Milligan for sharing his and Alec's working discography with me to post on the site back when Bacharach information was hard to come by. Thanks to him, this humble site took on a bit of legitimacy, certainly more than I ever could have generated on my own. It's cra...

Re: Willie Tee - "Reach Out for Me" (1970)
Wow. Never knew this existed. I used to work with Willie's niece years ago. Makes me want to put together a whole playlist of New Orleans Bacharach covers. Here's one to start:

Re: Would Burt approve?
Most definitely! My impression is that the desire for commercial success was a fundamental driver of Burt's artistic life. He may not have liked a particular version (for example, he wasn't crazy that Love changed the chords to "My Little Red Book"), but he'd still rather be on the charts ...

Thanks Blair. After looking at the user's registration info, I don't think it's a real person. The user registered and posted two minutes later and that was the last time they were ever on the board. More glaringly, they've got a spam link in their signature, which is a clear giveaway. Rather than p...

Re: Carole King article and other tributes to Bacharach
One of my biggest regrets about this site (and I've got lots!) is that I didn't figure out a way to save the content of the old server.com discussion board (ie the pre-phpBB version). While there was a ridiculous amount of drama and anonymous sniping in those early days (remember Vil Santos?), there...

Re: Carole King article and other tributes to Bacharach
I seem to recall that Carole posted once or twice here under a pseudonym before being thoughtlessly outed by someone. Is that right, Blair? I remember talking with Alec Cumming years ago about a poster who seemed to have a ton of inside information about recording sessions. Was it Madeline? I can't...

Re: Upcoming Cherry Red 4 CD set release
I always associated Cherry Red with post punk, so it's a happy surprise to learn of this. At some point, I should go through my Apple Music library and figure out which rarities I still don't have legitimate versions of. Do I really need "One Part Dog, Nine Parts Cat" on CD?

Re: Ed Ames 1927-2023
Yes! I'd heard Burt's solo version from Make It Easy on Yourself but it was Patton's version that made me fall in love with it. He really takes it over the top in terms of drama and I love the thermin. I was never a huge Faith No More fan, but they did a pretty reverent cover of "This Guy's in ...

Re: Ed Ames 1927-2023
And let's not forget Ed also did a vocal version of "She's Gone Away," one of my favorites from Make It Easy on Yourself. RIP Ed.

Re: Sheet Music for ALL of Bacharach's Songs?
Wow. I've never seen that Hansen collection before, but that's a pretty impressive collection of songs. When I first started collecting Bacharach stuff in the '90s, the Burt Bacharach Anthology was the most available sheet music collection, but it's mostly well-known songs (with a few lesser known o...

Re: Audiofile Burt?
Jim, are you familiar with "The Music of Burt Bacharach," the four (and later five) disc set put out by the Burt Bacharach Music Group? It turns up on eBay from time to time. https://www.ebay.com/itm/385534480486 It was a promotional set issued by Burt's music publishing group to promote h...

Re: Thanks for everything.
I wish I had more to say, but thanks is a good start. His music -- and life -- brought me joy. I'm happy to have had the chance to meet him a few times and, just as importantly, meet fellow fans from around the world whose love and fandom exceed mine by an exponential degree. I'm hopeful fans will v...

First time hearing this version. Most "soulful" Bacharach cover of all time?
