A typically beguiling Bacharach melody and chord sequence. A US Top 40 hit for Jane Morgan in 1959 which is always overlooked when record companies compile Bacharach hits or rarities.

Re: Bacharach appreciated more in the UK?
Thanks, Blueonblue. Long after Tonight is all Over has long been a favourite of mine.
Here's a link to Lou Johnson's 1964 UK Top 40 hit Message to Martha, coupled with the Marvelettes' cover Message to Michael from 1967, great versions each.

Re: Bacharach appreciated more in the UK?
The above list seems to have finally settled on 24, while the number of Bacharach songs that hit the Top 40 in the UK but not in the US is now at 4. He's actually had more No.1s in the UK than in the US - 7 compared to 6 - and had already had 6 in the UK before his first in the US in 1968 with This ...

Re: Baby It's You / UK
To be fair, the quote, "they struggled to karaoke through Bacharach's metronomic conducting", from the Telegraph was leveled at all three of the guest singers and it was part of the one & only review I've seen to give Bacharach's London concert the big thumbs down (See link below). Gen...

Re: Baby It's You / UK
Just thought I'd mention that the singer is Adele. Someone on these pages suggested that the guest singers at Bacharach's Electric Proms gig in London were out of their depth. Well, she certainly wasn't and nor was Jamie Cullam. How wonderfully assured she was and she's only 19! Looking at the foota...

Re: Bacharach appreciated more in the UK?
Welcome back, Sara - it must be several years since you've posted. Good to see that you've lost none of your former eloquence! I agree with all your points and it's curious, isn't it, how Bacharach fans' least favorite of his hit songs tends not to vary a great deal (I would have picked the same thr...

Josie James on Youtube singing Anyone Who had a Heart
Josie James with Burt Bacharach & the BBC Concert Orchestra at the BBC's Electric Proms in London on October 22nd. I know for many people this is always the highlight of BB's shows and the BBC obviously thought so because they've posted it on Youtube themselves. Anyone not moved by this performa...

Bacharach appreciated more in the UK?
The answer to that question is that we've always liked to think so, especially as the great man himself has told us so on numerous occasions, but, sadly, some of the facts that don't bear it out. For instance, below is a staggeringly long list of songs, including several that went Top 5, that were a...

Re: Burt in London tonight: concert review
Great show, great atmosphere, which BB, the core band and the BBC CO all responded to very positively. Although Beth Rowley didn't quite come up to scratch, it was nevertheless marvellous to hear 'Twenty-Four Hours from Tulsa' performed at a Bacharach gig for a change, ditto Adele and 'Baby it's You...

Re: The King of Easy
It's ironic that it's always the UK's so-called 'intelligent' newspapers like the Guardian, the Times and the Independent that refer to Bacharach in those journalistically lazy and disparaging terms 'King of Easy' and 'Lounge King', while the red-top tabloids treat him with the respect he deserves b...

Since Giving details about the radio broadcast, I've discovered that the concert is being televised and edited down to a 45 minute broadcast on the night of the concert, on BBC2 from 11:20pm until 00:05am.

Re: Bacharach on BBC radio this Sunday, Oct 12th
I listened to the show live and I have to say that as an interviewer Elaine Paige makes a damn good singer! Chronologically the interview was all over the place and covered very well trodden ground, to Bacharach fans at least, but we did get to hear some new stuff about 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundan...

Bacharach on BBC radio this Sunday, Oct 12th
Bacharach is a guest on BBC Radio Two's Elaine Paige show, which airs from 1pm until 2.30pm GMT this Sunday, October 12th. It will no doubt be available on the BBC webpage's Listen Again facility after broadcast. The show will concentrate on BB's work for stage and screen.
