Japanese TV, but longer video than the one linked by Raul. Maybe you saw it as "related video" on YouTube, as I did.

You got me curious, now. You probably remember the BBC special "This Is Now", at the end of which (at least as shown on PBS; I'm not sure it was part of the BBC special) EC says there was a parade of musicians, each playing his part separately, and Burt saying one could get addicted to the...

I liked becoming aware of this, but the guy seems to be too much in the business of rewriting songs...
That Paula Abdul thing of "making it your own" can be madening when the one doing it isn't Aretha Franklin, Issac Hayes or maybe Luther Vandross.

Rain From The Skies is kind of infectious, isn't it?

Interesting how the blogger and the visitors show such different views.

Thanks a bunch for the opportunity, Bill (and for the heads up, nymusicalsguy).

Reviews and old posters

Thank you for this nice account of the concert and how you related to it. I hope you were able to chill out with no particular sense of loss for not mingling with the singers or musicians yourself. Or even of positioning totry to meet Burt. To some people (including me, to some extent) that's very d...

Thanks, blueonblue! I thought of replying with another Jobim (Waters of March with Elis Regina [too obvious a choice, perhaps], Two Kites [not pleased with the renditions], Wave [idem], Luiza, One Note Samba/Samba de Uma Nota Só [Jobim and Gerry Mulligan chatting next to the paino] or a number of o...

Thank you so much for your feedback, Steve and Helcio.

I see the way Gismonti sets up what's coming (would these be the chord progressions?) and the careful arrangement as possibly also helping explain why I thought it was a Bacharach song.

"Sonho 70" is one my favorite albums.

Beautiful song sounds Bacharach to me

Does this not sound like it could have been a Bacharach piece? When I was a kid I used to think it was. I still love it.

Pêndulo, by Brazilian musician and composer Egberto Gismonti:

(Please raise the volume.)

Please, send some feedback...

Another Opportunity: Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges

Asked about what music he liked to listen to, Burt once said, and I paraphrase, "Early Milton Nascimento and Djavan." He added that he didn't like to listen to Brazilian music when he was composing. I would love to know for sure the reason why... I suggest that you look at the Amazon revie...

The interview is from January 2000. So I guess Walking Tall could have (it certainly should have, in my judgment) been nominated to the Oscars 2000, the one for which he was musical director... I didn't recall that.
