Re: The Grammy Awards

The Grammy salute to Stevie Wonder was first-rate. There's another composer whose prime period material has held up extremely well (IMO).

NYT: Springsteen calls "Sonata for Jukebox" one of the best

What are the best books about music you’ve read? At the top of my list remains Greil Marcus’s “Mystery Train,” followed closely by Peter Guralnick’s “Last Train to Memphis.” I’d include Dylan’s “Chronicles” and a recent book by Daniel Lanois, “Soul Mining,” that gives insights into the making of mus...

New Christopher Cross album

Nice review for Mr. Cross's newest offering, "Secret Ladder." I've heard the record and can attest to the album's consistent high quality, across the entirety of its 13 tracks. Very pleasant surprise; one of the best albums I've heard in 2014. http://www.albanyherald.com/news/2014/aug/28/g...

NYT article re Kyle Riabko/Bacharach Reimagined

The site itself also features a video clip of Mr. Riabko doing a short 3-song medley. December 11, 2013 This Guy’s in Love With Your Songs By ROB WEINERT-KENDT Burt Bacharach’s canon of effervescent pop classics belongs to the world, no question; a guy who could turn out hits for artists encompassin...

Rumer draws inspiration from Hasbrook Heights

Didn't recall seeing this posted on the Forum. It's a short piece by singer Rumer concerning why she's smitten with one of the lesser-known Bacharach-David gems, Hasbrook Heights. Below-the-fold comments are enjoyable, too. (Prof. Moriarty's cracked me up.) Anyone here that feels qualified to pick u...

A number of obscure recordings

Courtesy of Lee Hartsfeld, whose blog I had not visited in several years. Glad to see that he's still posting rare Burt records.

Re: reaction to last night's PBS program

Befitting comment at pbs.org regarding Stevie's performance on 'Alfie'... HumbleStudent I just had one of the thrills of my musical life, watching Stevie Wonder sing Bacharach/David's "Alfie"....anyone who knows this tune recognizes the harmonic complexity of the piece (especially anyone w...
