Re: Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame
Great insight from all - Thanks.
The first time I heard "(There Goes) The Forgotten Man", I thought it was ripe for a Springsteen cover.
Bruce ?

Re: Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame
Hi Bach, To some degree, I share your sentiment that the RRHOF is irrelevant. (The music is the music) I wasn't aware / forgot that Jann Wenner is in someway connected. That fact alone supports your opinion. However, I was reading that Bruce Springsteen was lobbying hard for Darlene Love's inclusion...

Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame
There's been some Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame anniversary concerts in NY this week. This of course get's me going on the sore topic of Dionne and Burt/Hal's exclusion from said Hall. Brenda Lee has been inducted. I could stop there. There is simply no logic to who's in and who's not which for me, compl...

Re: Broken Record ?
Based on your comment, I think I need to revisit the Tony Hatch / Jackie Trent catalog.
I do love Joanna by Scott Walker - and the instrumental version of Where Are You Now is classic but I've never really listened to the Jackie Trent songs.

The great Minnie Riperton's Come to My Garden. In the same way that I'm always on the lookout for hidden gems by Burt, I'm also always on the lookout for other hidden gems and for me, this is the mother-load. Just one song - Rainy Day in Centerville - is a motherload in itself. Burt must be aware of...

Broken Record ?
Sorry if I seem like a broken record....just trying to bring attention to a fantastic record that I know many will love. Here's what others have said about this album: "Stephney’s work here is on a level of Burt Bachrach’s best with a beautiful hint of darkness" "A criminally overlook...

Aside from his composing talents, Tony Hatch was also Simon Cowell's forerunner as the brutally honest judge on ITV's New Faces in the 70's

Re: Minnie Riperton
I downloaded the album Come To My Garden and it's really growing on me big time. I'm always scouring around for forgotten gems (at least unknown to me) - especially from this era (late 60's - early 70's) and this one solid gold ! It will definitely have a lot of appeal for Burt fans. Do yourselves a...

This thread puts me in mind of another Brian Wilson gem - Guess I'm Dumb - sung by Glen Campbell - It may have been another thread on this site that turned me onto it but it is a classic - enjoy

Re: I Say a Little Prayer
Great discussion all. Perhaps the most important point is that they are both fantastic - which points to the caliber of the song. I grew up in the UK and my sense is that maybe Dionne's wasn't a hit ? I don't think I ever heard it on the radio whereas Aretha's was a staple. Maybe that flavors my fav...
