Re: A Couple Bacharach/Warwick Questions

Yes, "People" is indeed just credited to Merrill/Styne, and any other attribution is incorrect. There are a couple Bacharach/Warwick alternates; one off the top of my head would be "Here Where There Is Love" which I believe has an extended instrumental section on the LP version. ...

Re: Magic Moments: The Definitive Burt Bacharach

I would have had less of a problem with this collection's track listing had Ace not just released its own Bacharach collectors' anthology, featuring virtually every one of the lesser tracks included here. (Amazing that some of these songs haven't been on CD for the entire CD era, and now they appear...

Re: Neil Simon-Burt Bacharach Songs

For the record, the three Burt/Dionne songs recorded in 1974 & still unreleased (referred to a few posts above) are "Plastic City" (no relation to Stephanie Mills' "Living On Plastic"!), "And Then You Know What He Did", and "And Then He Walked Through The Door&...

Re: Neil Simon-Burt Bacharach Songs

The estimable Mr. Nathan also unearthed a complete concert by Dionne performed at NJ's Garden State (now PNC Bank...sigh) Arts Center, half of which appeared on one of his Rhino Handmade releases, the other half scheduled to appear on Rhino Handmade's expanded edition of ON STAGE AND IN THE MOVIES. ...

Re: Neil Simon-Burt Bacharach Songs

Yes, I believe Dionne's comments were related to her promotion of a current release. And while I appreciate Dionne's desire to look forward, not backwards, her recordings truly are national treasures. I've long believed a box set (a la Rhino's THE LOOK OF LOVE set for Burt) would cause a critical re...

Re: Neil Simon-Burt Bacharach Songs

I have long been hoping for the release of these three Bacharach/Simon-penned songs recorded by Dionne in that "lost weekend" of 1974 at A&M Studios, produced by Burt with Phil Ramone engineering, as in the "old days". But thanks to Rhino Handmade's cancellation of David Nath...

Re: Bacharach/Warwick Song List?

Dionne has also performed Burt compositions "On My Own" (on SOLID GOLD) and "Arthur's Theme" (on a recent concert DVD/CD taped in England). There may be a couple of others that I can't think of, off the top of my head...

Paradise Island: The Rare Songs Of Bacharach

The PARADISE ISLAND anthology produced by St. Etienne/Eclipse/Universal is finally scheduled for release on February 16, 2009! Here's the tracklist courtesy Amazon UK...I've asterisked the songs which I believe are making their CD debuts. 1. Keep Me In Mind - Patti Page 2. I Cry More - Alan Dale 3. ...

Re: Kennedy Center Honors

Nobody would like more to see Bacharach & David on that Kennedy Center stage than me; they are long-overdue recipients of the honor. (And the same goes for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame -- the number of rock artists influenced by B&D is countless, and they are certainly as deserving as in...

Re: Irma Thomas and a new Bacharach song

Totally agreed. My only regret about this track is that Burt himself didn't accompany Irma; some parts of the piano arrangement don't recall the Bacharach style, and I think his unique voicings and piano style would have produced something remarkable. That said, it's still a very special track, beau...

Re: The beautiful B. Wilson 1965-1966

GREAT story, Alec! And so very like Brian!! I only wish it had a happier ending! Perhaps for your next Burt liner notes assignment...(They should have paged you at Rhino UK -- the otherwise-interesting new MAGIC MOMENTS comp has no notes or discographical information other than a brief but entertain...

Re: The beautiful B. Wilson 1965-1966

No antipathy at all between those three...Wilson & McCartney have performed together in the past (lovely renditions of "God Only Knows" and "Let It Be" live, and a duet on Brian's GETTIN' IN OVER MY HEAD album) and Wilson & Bacharach have written together. It's unfortunat...

Re: Elvis and (not) Burt??

Diana Krall has a new CD slated to appear on February 9, 2009, but no word yet if this is the Burt/Elvis project...if not, I'm very hopeful based on all evidence that it's still in the pipeline. It wouldn't surprise me if it's taking its sweet time -- Burt is a notorious perfectionist, and Elvis is ...

Re: Elvis and (not) Burt??

Thanks for the heads-up on MAGIC MOMENTS. Am dying to read Elvis' new liner notes!! And I'm sure if Elvis' SPECTACLE gets picked up for a second season, Burt will be among the guests! They really are a mutual admiration society!

Re: Living Without Love

There is also a cover of "Living Without Love" performed by VInce Hill, production and/or arrangement I believe by Norrie Paramor. Yet another Burt & Hal song that the Maestro himself never tackled in the studio...imagine, to be so prolific!!
