Re: Diana Krall

Burt himself made mention of the project with Diana & Elvis, information that was later repeated in the liner notes to Ace's wonderful ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE compilation, so I would think the project is definitely happening. Still, in the music business, things often seem to take a long time...l...

Re: This year's Election

I think only Burt could answer that, but celebrities have been known (and often!) to refute the information contained on those kinds of lists. I would be very, very surprised if Burt is supporting John McCain this year, but again, if he is, I'm sure he has his reasons. I'm happy to let him keep thos...

Re: Your choice for a beautiful Burt co-writer hookup?

A couple folks asked about Todd Rundgren and Thom Bell in the "Whatever happened to...?" category: Rundgren is still touring regularly and recording, too; his steadfast determination NOT to be a commercially successful musician has led him down a lot of strange paths, but his work is almos...

Re: Irma Thomas new cd

Any appearance of a new Bacharach song is always great news! And Irma's recording of "Live Again" has to be one of my favorite lesser-known Burt gems, as well as one of his most rocking!

Re: Your choice for a beautiful Burt co-writer hookup?

Well, Burt's already co-written with Brian Wilson (we're still waiting for further fruits of their labor... when I briefly met Burt after a casino show, he said they had co-written 3 songs, only 1 of which has seen release!), Paul Anka (on two occasions, in the 1970s and again in the 1990s) and coll...

Re: Always Something There - Ace compilation

I think the compilers must have included the Nat Cole instrumental as it was the first-ever recording of a Bacharach tune. I can see, er, hear it being jarring, though! Love "Rain From The Skies" -- can't wait to finally be able to hear it (and the other true rarities!) in pristine sound. ...

Re: italia original Promises Promises cast 1970

There are two Italian cast recordings of PROMESSE, PROMESSE; one from the original 1970 production and a more recent one of a few years back. Interestingly, they each employ a different translation. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any other foreign cast recordings of PROMISES.

Re: Sergio Mendes does The Look of Love again

Hey Steveo, yup, that's just it! If one young person or listener new to Burt & Hal's ouevre hears Fergie or Joss Stone performing (butchering?) "The Look of Love" or "Walk On By" and seeks out the originals, then it's all worthwhile, isn't it? I'd be curious, though, what Bur...

Re: Sergio Mendes does The Look of Love again

This cover is featured on Sergio Mendes' new CD (which also has killer guest appearances from Herb Alpert & Lani Hall) entitled ENCANTO. I was thrilled to see a Burt song leading off a new disc, and more power to Sergio for still being active today, and to Fergie, for the possibility that her pe...

Re: Always Something There - Ace compilation

Love the new design and News section, Mark! Beautiful work!!! There's a great new(ish) coffee table book (well, it's paperback, but close to a coffee table book...) on the history of Ace Records which goes into a little detail about their process in licensing, etc. etc. There's some fascinating stuf...

Re: Always Something There - Ace compilation

EXTRA special kudos to Ace for including "Move It On The Backbeat", indeed. If I recall correctly, Hip-O Select tried to license this track for their (also phenomenal) Bacharach box, SOMETHING BIG, and they were unable to do so. Glad Ace has finally made it happen. Also as is customary wit...

Re: Always Something There - Ace compilation

There could be no better news! Ace's Songwriters & Producers series is consistently the best reissue line on the market today -- given competition only by Ace's other lines. Previous entries have included THE POMUS & SHUMAN STORY, 3 volumes of THE LIEBER & STOLLER STORY; 2 volumes of Jac...

Re: 4 CD box-set of new versions of BB songs

I just discovered this set last week, and while I haven't listened all the way through yet, I second these comments unequivocally! And at a bargain price (I paid 7 GBP for the set, or around 14 bucks in US dollars), this is a must-buy for any Bacharach fans. Despite being on a budget label, the comp...

In my dream world, Dionne would cover Hatch & Trent 's"Where Are You Now" even today...

BTW, the production on her new WHY WE SING? is exceptional, a big step up from ME & MY FRIENDS. Don't we all wish that she has that one great pop album left in her, though?
