Re: Paper Mache in new "Sapphire" credit card commercial

Gillanddon,

This was recorded at Phil Ramone's A & R Studios on 7th Avenue right off Broadway and around the corner from the Brill Building and the offices of Scepter...Scepter moved to 254 W. 54th St in 1966...the building was later the home of Studio 54 and also CBS Studios in NYC.

Re: Bacharach, David and Warwick – three strikes against the

Blair, the true irrelevance of the RRHOF is borne out in the fact that it has struggled financially and has not generated the buzz that everyone thought it would when it was originally conceived. Does anyone really care about the RRHOF? The RRHOF is constantly struggling with reinventing itself and ...

Re: Paper Mache in new "Sapphire" credit card commercial

I thought I was hearing things the first time I heard the commercial! I too was waiting for "twenty houses in a row"...this was one of the most unusual tunes Burt and Hal ever wrote for Dionne and Hal's softly cynical lyric is not what you expect when you hear that intro. Burt was convince...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Although I love Laura Nyro as a songwriter and love some of her interpretations, this is not among my favorites. I prefer Dionne's version and even Barbra Streisand's version to Laura's. Dionne's version has a quiet urgency in her voice that just draws you into the tune that Barbra and Laura miss......

Re: Dionne-Bacharach/David Review 1972

Bruce, I think there is some question about the Mills material...I had always assumed that Burt intended those for Dionne as well. What is interesting is that Burt was shockingly insensitive to Dionne's plight when they split. He didn' t tell her...she had an album due out and he was AWOL. He was co...

Re: Dionne-Bacharach/David Review 1972

Blair, the album was recorded before their involvement in Lost Horizon...not during. The album was released in January 1972 and Burt and Hal began their involvement with Lost Horizon a few of months after the album was released. Although Lost Horizon had a lot to do with their breakup, it had nothin...

Re: Dionne-Bacharach/David Review 1972

Blair, I agree. Be Aware should have been released as a single...I Just Have to Breathe is stunning and If You Never Say Goodbye is more traditional Bacharach/David fare a la Odds and Ends etc but good. One Bell to Answer is good but subdued...and there is something I really love about the effort al...

Dionne-Bacharach/David Review 1972

Posted this a while back and thought it was worth revisiting: Found this Rolling Stone review of Dionne Warwick's January 1972 "Dionne." The album, issued by Warner Brothers after her departure from Scepter for allegedly the most lucrative recording contract ever given a female vocalist to...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Roberto, is this the same tune Dionne Warwick recorded in around 1997 for her Dionne Sings Dionne album? I seem to have heard this before although I don't quite remember if this tune is on that album..that CD is tucked away somewhere...not one of my favorite efforts by Dionne, by the way. Sandi's ve...

Re: Interview with Burt

I understand completely where you are coming from in a world where youth is exalted and age is denigrated. I for one really do think it's amazing that Burt is still compassionate all these years later about his work and think that it's normal for younger folks to express amazement that anyone over 4...

Re: Interview with Burt

I have no problem with the references to his age...he is 83! I found the article respectful if not downright reverential and didn't have any problems with it. Burt is at a stage in his life and career when he has the luxury of doing exactly what he wants to do, commercial success be damned...he no l...

Re: Jackie DeShannon Revisited

Aside from Dionne, Jackie was the best interpreter of Bacharach in my opinion yet she never gets her due. Many speak reverently of Dusty Springfield as though Burt worked directly with her often. Aside from The Look of Love, Bacharach didn't work. produce or write for Dusty but she did a lot of Bach...

Re: Dionne Warwick and Rob Shrock playing at Blue Note 6/02/11

Blair you are right about the work Burt did with Elvis Costello. The tunes were amazing and inspired. The edge he had with Dionne in the 60s and early 70s was in full eviidence there. Alas, much of Burt's work in the 80s was dreck. The worst excesses of MOR and the treacle that Bayer-Sager wrote tha...
