Re: Great early Burt - With Open Arms

i do know that Adam Faith is thought highly of amongst pop/rock lovers "of a certain age" in Britain.... He being, like Cliff Richard, one of the figures instrunental in bringing "The American Sound" to the UK. I like his version of "Country Music Holiday" as well! :D

Re: Great early Burt - With Open Arms

I've always loved Jane Morgan's version of this song. I remember, when I was first discovering the oeuvre of Burt in the early 80's, I went into a beat-up old used record store. Amongst the 45's, I found "With Open Arms" by Jane Morgan.... It said at the bottom (Bacharach--Hilliard). Boy, ...

Re: Burt and his mom.......

She is a very glam lady....

Where did I see that other photo of them together... in a convertible car... I think it was in Paris circa 1964? She looked almost as glamorous as Dieterich herself....

Re: Serene's assessment of Who Is Gonna Love Me

I absolutely adore this piece. Everything about it is right... just right on the money. It's perfect Burt and Hal at their best. The studio recording values of the record are first rate as well. It's fairly sophisticated rhythmically... and a good bit daring harmonically/melodically; maybe it's a li...

Thanks. Of course it is. Can't hurt to ask. I just feared the ASCAP site would be so huge and abstruse that I might get lost in it; I wanted to cut-to-the-chase.

My Top Ten (if only for the moment)

I agree, BB FAN, Top Ten Lists were never made for Burt's genius. Let us say then that today these are my Top Ten: 1. "(They Don't Give Medals To) Yesterday's Heroes" by Dionne, 2. "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" by Dusty 3. "(There Goes) The Forgotten Man" b...

I need Burt's Publishing People... so I can record covers

I wish to record an album of covers of Burt's songs. I've never recorded a cover before... I need to get all the Mechanical Rights details sorted out now so all may be paid appropriately. Whom do I approach? Is it The Harry Fox Agency? Do I give them a list of songs I wish to record... Or must I neg...

Kiddo, you have a loving touch. But there are reams of chord changes in your left hand that you're missing, and much of the beauty of Burt's song is therefore compromised. It's great that you play by ear, but you simply must take the time to learn those gorgeous chords in the left hand as they were ...

Oh yeah, Scott Walker's great! My favorite record of his (besides "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore))"is: "My Ship Is Comin' In" Also not to be missed are his versions of Jacques Brel's "Jackie".... the song that scandalized Britain in the late 1960's. and his version...

... Wow. And "Lifetime Of Loneliness" as well! I'd love to hear these piano solos. It says they are "jazz" interpretations... that can mean a whole lot of things.... from subtly embellished to wild, Bill Evans-esque flights-of-fancy. Most Burt songs are sophisticated enough witho...

The best Bacharach interpreters have always been those who have precise pitch and rhythm, great discipline and a certain self-awareness in their singing.

Gene had all these in spades. Truly one of Burt's best interpreters.

It is an interesting question. It seems to me that Burt's music-- even when extrovert in mood-- still has a modern feel that is very "cool" in the Marshall McLuhan sense of the word... A certain intimacy is almost always present, with only a handful of songs being excepted. Sinatra was alw...
