Scott Walker - ideal male Burt Bacharach singer?

If I am not wrong, he only performed 4 Bacharach songs: Make it easy on yourself (with the Walker Brothers); Another tear falls (with the Walker Brothers); The windows of the world (in Scott 2); Any day now (from 'Any day now'). And though he never worked with Bacharach, in my opinion, he is one of ...

Re: Happy Birthday Burt......

Last summer I had the chance to see Burt play live in Madrid. I waited after the concert and he signed me two CDs, he was extremely nice.

Congratulations, you're the best !

Re: Hal David - The country years?

Thank you all. Blue... that is AMAZING. The Pet Shop Boys perfectly understood Dusty, what a monumental song. Bachto, yes, Dusty had a lot of problems: personal, repertoire/composers, management/record companies. (I recommend the book "Dusty" by Lucy O'Brien). ...and as for versions, I don...

Re: Hal David - The country years?

Blueonblue, I have watched that rehearsal video 100 times... Hi Bachtobacharach; I agree 100% with you. Although I've tried (I even bought 'Amazing grace'), I've never been a big fan of Aretha (in fact, I prefer Dionne's version of 'I say a little prayer'); Barbra, yes, she is perfect, but cold as i...

Re: Hal David - The country years?

"So many female vocalists today so overvocalize and it becomes about them and not the song and so many sound so much alike it's hard to tell them apart...such narcissistic singers these days!" Mmmh, absolutely. In fact I like singers that give importance to the song's lyric and just sing i...

Re: Hal David - The country years?

"..Burt NEVER wrote these tunes to stand alone sans lyrics..." and viceversa, pop song lyrics can't be read sans music, as if they were poetry. Thanks for all your comments, didn't know some of the things you mention. Any of you know if apart from Ronnie Milsap and Wille Nelson, he worked ...

Hal David - The country years?

I am interested in post-Bacharach lyrics by Hal David. I read everywhere that he worked for a number of country music artists in the 70s but, apart from Ronald Milsap's "It was almost like a song" and Willie Nelson/Julio Iglesias "To all the girls I've loved before", I find it ha...

Re: Burt in Madrid last Wednesday

I was there. Fantastic night, fantastic concert, fantastic band, fantastic singers, fantastic songs (personally, I only missed 'I don't know what to do with myself', but with hundreds of good songs it was difficult to have everything). I was in ecstasy the whole evening. I waited after the show and ...

Burt in Madrid this summer !

I hope Burt likes the 'Patio de Conde Duque', it's a very nice open-air venue (Liza Minnelli sang there last summer).

I just can't wait. I'd like to know the set list and musicians he has in this tour. Any idea?

Thank you for the answers. I agree with the last post: once you start listening to Bacharach songs (better with Hal David, another genius), you can see how ahead of EVERYBODY he has been. And I don't think his work has been properly claimed, he's still a bit underrated, even after the Costello album...
