Re: Burt Bacharach and Joss Stone, London, July

The reviewer in the London Evening Standard is not the first to refer to Bacharach's trio of vocalists as "backing singers" and to confuse Josie James with Donna Taylor.

Re: Burt Bacharach and Joss Stone, London, July

I see that Joss Stone is preparing for the Bacharach shows by getting herself thrown out of Iran.

Re: Lou Johnson 1941 - 2019

I liked his gritty voice and it's baffling to me that he wasn't more successful, especially given the quality of the Bacharach and David songs he had first crack at. We have an old VHS 'Ready Steady Go' compilation that includes, alas not on YouTube, a very nervous Burt Bacharach being interviewed b...

Webb has just commented on the album on his Twitter page. The line, "These rock star composers are the Gershwins of our time", might raise the odd eyebrow or two! https://mobile.twitter.com/realjimmywebb/status/1129913309556289536?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet I th...

Re: R.I.P.—Doris Day

Doris Day was a uniquely talented lady, a great singer and a terrific actress with a tremendous flair for comedy.

Every time I hear 'Send Me No Flowers' I wonder how such an attractive song could completely fail to be a hit and, even more puzzlingly, why it remains little known to this day.

Re: New Bacharach/Costello Composition

It takes a few listens, as per normal with B&C's material, but it has more of Bacharach's stamp on it than some of their other collaborations, particularly the recurring theme on the keyboard.

Re: Burt to the Rescue!

The "new material set for release this year" sounds intriguing. I hope someone gets round to recording 'With A Voice', preferably Bacharach himself with John Pagano on lead vocals.

Re: Les Reed 1935 - 2019

Les Reed had a strong association with Tom Jones and in all the press coverage I've seen since the announcement of Reed's death the same two songs were referenced each time, It's Not Unusual and Delilah, with no mention at all for either Daughter of Darkness or I'm Coming Home. I personally think th...

Re: Guess Who's coming to dinner

I always thought that Kiki Dee seemed to be singing well within herself and tended to come across as just too nice and polite to really let herself go. The one time that wasn't the case was in the mid-70s when she had a brief spell as a 'rock chick' and toured the UK rock circuit with her own band o...

Re: UK No.1 album contains new Jimmy Webb song

I think the new song is ok but nothing to get excited about and probably the best thing about the record is Michael Ball's vocals, something that's a surprise to me as I've never really been a fan of his. I don't recall it creating much of a stir here but Ball actually recorded a hit album of Bachar...

.... It was particularly gratifying to hear the Jobim influenced 'Closer Than The Sun' from 'Filth And Dreams' because this remains the only album of theirs I don't own in any format: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu2vlcS1Htc We don't own 'Filth And Dreams' either and according to Allmusic it's one...

Yes, tremendous.

One of his greatest performances was of Jacques Brel's 'Jackie', which because of its lyrics was rarely played on the radio at the time.
