Re: 100 Reasons the Beatles Suck

It wasn't that pointed of a parody. I can't see why Todd couldn't have just gone on as before. There are some great tracks on that album btw; I like "All Smiles" in particular. The ex- Beatles never took themselves too seriously. George was close with the Pythons (Eric Idle being the write...

Re: 100 Reasons the Beatles Suck

Opinions, opinions, opinions... everyone has them, and... well, I'll refrain from the old Zappa quote.

Pardon me if your refined treatise was undermined by the title of your thread.

Re: 100 Reasons the Beatles Suck

No one here is claiming that the Beatles were the greatest ever, or flawless. Quite the contrary. Rather than revisionist, I would personally characterize this thread as having a major chip on its shoulder. Really guys, regardless of perceived quality or talent or whatever, you can't expect Burt to ...

Re: 100 Reasons the Beatles Suck

I think there's plenty of room in the musical world for both Bacharach and the Beatles. The Beatles clearly admired Bacharach when deciding to cover "Baby It's You", which Burt still publicly points out was an honor for him. Paul McCartney wrote a great Bacharach "pastiche" for C...

Re: Austin Performance Playlist

They did play "That's What Friends Are For" in Austin though... that's at least one difference.

Re: Austin Performance Playlist

The Kansas City setlist looks very similar, if not identical to what they played in Austin. Thanks for posting.

Re: Austin Performance Playlist

What a show! I don't have a setlist... I haven't even seen any reviews online. It was magnificent though!!! After the show I had the opportunity to meet the man, get his autograph and talk with him a little. It was an experience I will never forget...

Cousin Burt

I just received some family history data from a distant cousin and learned that I am a 3rd cousin to Burt's wife!!! I was going through the list of names in my family and suddenly... there was Burt. That means that Burt's wife and I share the same great-great-grandfather, and my son is a fourth cous...

Re: Wow, YT Link to Beach Boys obscurity, very Bacharachian

As I understand it, the drugs that have most affected Brian's outward appearance WERE NOT the illegal drugs he took in the 60s and 70s. It was the medications Landy prescribed to "control" him in the early 80s that led to his slurred speech and other problems. If you watch BB docs from the...

Steve, I take it you've spent time with Brian? Do you mind sharing your connection with the big guy?

Re: Wow, YT Link to Beach Boys obscurity, very Bacharachian

Being a huge Beach Boys fan, I have to recommend to you the track "Let Him Run Wild" from the "Summer Days and Summer Nights" album. That song is VERY influenced by Bacharach. Seek it out! Also, the instrumental "Let's Go Away for a While" from Pet Sounds... Brian was o...

A Couple Bacharach/Warwick Questions

I have a couple questions regarding the Bacharach/Warwick catalog that I hope a seasoned collector might answer. The first is, were the edits always the same for all the songs Bacharach wrote for Warwick, regardless of whether one purchased a particular song as a single or as part of an album? In ot...
