Last Monday, I walked by the theatre and saw that ad copy with my own eyes. I couldn't believe it, so I read it over very carefully. And, sure enough, it says something very close to the following, "A [inspiring, marvelous, wonderful--something like that] score by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, including the songs "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "I Say A Little Prayer" and the exciting title song [Promises, Promises]" So the copy definitely makes it seem like "I Say A Little Prayer For You" is in the new show. But it made no sense to me.

nymusicalsguy wrote:Great news, Steve. I'd heard on the Broadway grapevine that "I Say A Little Prayer" would be part of the show...a rumor that most likely started due to that ad copy. If it were true, it would singlehandedly be the most wrong-headed decision imaginable. I'm so glad they've removed the offending text, and the score to PROMISES will remain pure, as it were. Now, I *do* hope they're including "You've Got It All Wrong" from the Encores! production. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but it looks likely, as it is another song for their leading lady, Kristin. Fingers crossed!

During the Encores revival of Promises, back in the 90s, during that glorious overture they had the chorus girls doing some funky late 60s style dancing. It was a clever way to add more of the flavor of the times to the show and went so well with the music. Of course, they may not do that for this first bona fide revival on Broadway, but I wouldn't mind if they did. After all, when it first opened in 1968, Burt used innovations with his back-up voices in the orchestra and mic-ing the show like a recording studio. I really am looking forward to seeing how they handle the whole thing.

That opening number was something else. It told me: "Did you think this music had been written with something else in mind? Aren't you glad you came?"
I was 4 in '68. Did attend all the Encore performances, though.
