Juan Carlos Calderón - bacharachian songwriter

Post by Pablo »

I thought maybe you'd like to know about this remarkable pop songwriter who is frequently labeled in Spain as the 'Spanish Bacharach'. Born in 1938, Juan Carlos Calderón has written and produced dozens of hit songs and albums since the late 60s for lots of Spain and Latin American MOR (or as we say in Spain 'canción ligera' which means 'light song') artists. Among many others, he wrote the best albums of Mexican superstar Luis Miguel (from 1987 to 1991). I think Calderón's songs has never crossed over anglo markets, except for one song: "Eres tú" by vocal/folk group Mocedades (by the way it was Spain's 1973 Eurovision song contest entry; they got 2nd place). I think Mocedades entered the American chart with an English version ("Touch the wind"). There is also a version of the song by Johnny Mathis.

This is a very bacharachian solo song by Juan Carlos Calderón:

This is Mocedades "Eres tú" (Calderón conducts the orchestra):

Bonjour Pablo;

Thanks for posting the song by Juan Carlos Calderon.

In my judgement, he can stand on his own!
Take care;

Vincent
