Score for Casino Royale (1967)

Post by dhertz »

Good morning all. I'm a student at the Berklee College of Music and as a project I will be arranging the theme for Casino Royale for big band. Does anyone out there know of any exising music (lead sheet, score, etc.) that I may be able to see? Thanks in advance/Don

The published piano solo version comes very close to Burt's original 1967 lead sheet/Piano part.If you can get that, it will be a good guide...I can't say this about all of his songs, as I knew personally some of the people who did "take down" from a tape of some of Burt's music, and proceeded to create the official piano versions,(not always faithful) but the Casino Royale Theme is pretty close in in concept to Burt's ideas on the song. You should look
at big city libraries for compilation books, or at Barnes and Noble, etc...make sure it has the 1967 copyright, and not a re-do(for example, a sign on the book cover "all music arranged by so and so" is not good - look for collections of his songs where the print size and style varies from song to song. This kind of ensures it hasnt been recently doctored by some piano arranger. You could try writing the publisher and requesting a lead sheet. NOt sure how they will respond.
The other thing is to listen to the cd....and copy down some of the concepts used in the
recording...for example in the string breaks, those are intervals of 6'ths, etc.
I hope this helps.

Steveo - Thanks for the suggestions. I've gone ahead and began scoring by ear from the original recording. I figured that by the time I received something published, then I could have already written into Sibelius!

All said, I truly appreciate your thoughts/Don

I realize that the original post is a couple of years old, but I was wondering if you were able to complete a big band arrangement of "Casino Royale"? If so, I would like to know if there's any way I could get a copy?
