Reading Burt's book "Anyone Who Had a Heart", I got a little surprised when Burt says he "always wondered why nobody has ever cut "Only Love Can Break a Heart"
again, particularly a country artist". In fact, country/pop singer Sonny James (who had a number one hit with "Young Love" on both Pop and Country charts, back in 1957) not only re-recorded "Only Love Can Break a Heart", but also released it as a single and it went to # 1 on the Cash Box Country Singles chart, on March 18, 1972, it also reached # 1 on the Record World Country Singles chart on March 11, 1972, and it got to # 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart on March 11, 1972.

Hi Helcio,
Thanks for the info.

Hi "Blue"
Thank you for the link. Bobby Vinton's version reached #99 (in 1977) on the Billboard's Hot 100 singles charts and stayed there for only two weeks.
Checking my chart books again, another artist, named Kenny Dale, also had a top 10 hit (on the Country charts) with "Only Love Can Break a Heart" around September, 1979. It got to # 7 in Billboard, and #8 in both Cash Box and Record World magazines.
Tried to find a vídeo (for both Sonny James and Kenny Dale's versions) on YouTube, but no luck!
Take care!
