.... A similar quote could have come from both Dusty Springfield and Jackie DeShannon referring to Dionne. . ... Dionne recorded covers with similar arrangements of both "What The World Needs Now" and "The Look Of Love" ......... While I've always characterized Warwick as inimitable - Cilla, Dusty and Jackie proved that others can perform Bacharach as well! .... "blue" - Hope we have the opportunity to see "Cilla"!

Here's Sheridan Smith singing 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' from episode 2 last night:

Here's a better sounding video of Sheridan Smith as Cilla Black performing 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' from episode two of the series, and it includes the preceding scene when she finds out the record's gone to No.1 in the UK chart.

Lots of talk in the media about the possibility of Ms Smith's recording of 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' being released as a single. Interesing that she sings Cilla's changed lyric for the 1st chorus, "who couldn't be another heart" before reverting to the standard lyric "you couldn't really have a heart" for the 2nd. I always thought that the song's extraordinary coda fades too soon on both the Dionne Warwick and Cilla Black recordings and it's great that Sheridan Smith's version does it full justice.

Martin, let's hope they release Sheridan's version of this fantastic song, it would be a Massive number one hit ........all over again !
Or as Burt would say... "it's a Smash" !

I don't whether Sheridan Smith's version will be released as a single, Blue, but it seems Cilla Black's own 1964 recording is doing well again and under the headline, 'Cilla Black re-enters top 40 with 'Anyone Who Had A Heart' following Sherdian Smith drama', the article on the Independent website goes on to say:

"Cilla Black has re-entered the UK Top 40 with her song “Anyone Who Had A Heart” 50 years since it was first released in 1964. Spotify streams of Black’s songs have also soared by 2,348 per cent since the second episode of the drama series, with “Anyone Who Had A Heart” receiving the biggest increase. The resurgence in interest for the song follows Sheridan Smith’s rendition of “Anyone Who Had A Heart” during the drama on Monday night. The famous song was originally penned by legendary songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David and first released by Dionne Warwick in 1964, the same year Cilla Black released her version. The song was Black’s second single and first number one hit following the release of her debut “Love of the Loved” in 1963. Cilla became ITV’s most popular drama launch since Broadchurch in 2013, attracting 6.7 million viewers for its first episode. The three-part drama has received positive reviews, with many critics praising Sheridan Smith’s performance. The Independent’s TV critic Ellen E Jones said the actress has an “affinity that goes beyond the prosthetic denture and the red bobbed wig”. Cilla continues on Monday 29 September at 9pm on ITV."

In tonight's final episode of Cilla, we did see a recreation of the Alfie sessions. Burt was played by a young actor named Daniel Pirrie who has a lot of experience in London theatre. We saw Burt conducting and playing the piano and asking for mulitiple takes. We saw the Breakaways doing backing vocals. We also saw George Martin ask Burt "Just what are you looking for, Burt". When first introduced to the song by Brian Epstein, Cilla says 'you can't call a song Alfie, you call a dog, Alfie!". Good stuff. A great final episode. Highly recommended.

Wonderful final episode. Sheridan Smith IS Cilla. Loved the sequence where she's recording Alfie with Burt Bacharach and the multiple takes. The Brian Epstein story is very sad as we saw tonight. Cilla comes across as self centred and very career minded but by the end when she was embarking on her TV career you couldn't help but adore her.A great series. Loved it

I thought the scene recreating the 'Alfie' recording session was very well done and obviously based on the now famous film footage. Full credit must go to actor Daniel Pirrie for managing to be so convincing in his short cameo role as Bacharach, not an easy thing to have pulled off. The scene starts 15 minutes and 50 seconds into the episode 3 link below:
