top five instrumentals...
What are your top five favorite instrumentals by Burt? I'm not talking instrumental versions of songs with lyrics, but rather, pieces Burt wrote without any lyrics; pieces that were purely instrumental. In no particular order, my top five favorites are:
The Grapes of Roth (Promises, Promises)
And the People Were With Her
Another Spring Will Rise
Summer of '77
Futures

My favorite instrumentals of BURT are,
1.Magdalena.
2.Woman.
3.Monterey Peninsula.
4.Always Taking Aim.
5.Can`t Give Up.
These are my favorite but to be honest, i like all the instrumentals done by BURT!
Kind regards

Too painful to rank, especially these first three, which I guess are my favorites.
And The People Were With Her
She's Gone Away
Pacific Coast Highway
New York Lady
Sir James' Trip To Find Mata, dance sequence (I suspect this is my father's favorite, but maybe I'd list Bond Street in its stead, I'm not sure)
Then, maybe Another Spring Will Rise, Woman, Futures, Hi There Ms. Goodthighs, Freefal, Venerable Sir James Bond.

Just so some of our posts are not misinterpreted, here's what the initial post of this thread asked:
"What are your top five favorite instrumentals by Burt? I'm not talking instrumental versions of songs with lyrics, but rather, pieces Burt wrote without any lyrics; pieces that were purely instrumental."
BTW: my favorite instrumental version of a work with lyrics is Wives and Lovers (BB, self-titled album) . I suppose one reason is that I think it is much better than any other version I know of, especially those with vocals not just at the very end.

Top 5 instrumentals/SEVEN MEN FROM NOW update (BB play)
Hey, these lists are habit-forming!
Here are mine...
1. Casino Royale (title theme)---Absolutely THE most underrated movie theme by ANYBODY at ANYTIME!!! It's amazing how the musical momentum builds! Wish I could say I like the actual movie that follows---lol!!
2. Pacific Coast Highway (have the original LP with the cool ads for 1970 Chevys!)
3. Knowing When To Leave (agree with previous props about the ending)
4. Always Taking Aim (You could almost count AT THIS TIME an instrumental album---the Grammys did!)
5. Nikki
And My Top Ten...
1 ALFIE
2 THE APRIL FOOLS (like instrumental especially)
3 24 HOURS FROM TULSA
4 THE WINDOWS OF THE WORLD
5 THE SWEETEST PUNCH
6 SOMETHING BIG (vocals version)
7 ARE YOU THERE (WITH ANOTHER GIRL)
8 CASINO ROYALE (title again)
9 THIS GUY's IN LOVE WITH YOU
10 WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW
And... as we all know these lists change EVEERY DAY, so, these are the runners-up:
1 ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART
2 A HOUSE IS NOT A HOME
3 REACH OUT FOR ME
4 PROMISES, PROMISES
5 I'LL NEVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN
6 ARTHUR'S THEME
7 HASBROUCKE (?) HEIGHTS
8 BOND STREET
9 TOLEDO
10 TRAINS & BOATS & PLANES
AND at least another 20...................
***ALSO: Many thanks to the folks who responded to my Jan. 15 & 17 entries regarding SEVEN MEN FROM NOW, my original play, with adapted music by Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb & Brian Wilson. Special thanks to Steveo, who provided the simplified link to the myspace page! A small, start-up cable network has taken an interest in the project (one of the powers that be has said that this BB site has become her latest internet obsession!! Ah, The Magic of Burt!!!
Thanks to All, Again. And feel free to get intouch about the project, as we are having script-in-hand readings, in both New York & Philadelphia in March.
Peace To All!

she's gone away
have you ever guys listened clearly to "she's gone away"???
it's an amazing and very "odd sounding" to be written" in 1968...the trumpet..the celesta..this little drum roll..it does'nt sound like to any other music composed for a big orchestra..i fell in love with this short piece since i was a child..very familiar to my ears and also melancholic but never sad..the music of the Maestro is never sad in general..what do you think pals??let me know something GABBA
