BB Appreciation on CP

An odd, flawed, but appreciative piece on Burt appears on this weekend`s edition of CounterPunch (www.counterpunch.com).
Note: For the uninitiated, CounterPunch is a site featuring left-ish views. Those who fear their feathers may be ruffled by exposure to these should steer clear. Most of us recall the vitriol spewed by those of the right-ish persuasion a few years ago on the forum and would appreciate being spared a rerun.

Unless this article gets picked up by the Drudge Report, I don't think we'll see much of a reaction from the far right...

I've read a number of articles like this, where the writer seems to be expressing a grudging admiration for Burt Bacharach's music, yet, getting in a few verbal licks of condescension, at the same time. One of the great things about Mr. B, is that, he seems to take this in stride, by never taking himself too seriously. I think his presence in the 'Austin Powers' movies & the Geico commercial, really confirm this image of a guy who is in on the joke, yet despite patronizing articles like the one Mr. Cummings wrote---and you really have to admit, that, as many complimentary bon mots as he throws at Mr. B, the overall tone is one who feels he is superior to the music and the man who composed it---the sheer timeless durability and continued artistic presence of Our Favorite Composer, allows us, to have the final appreciation of the man & his art!

Once again...Happy B'Day, Burt Bacharach!
