From the TV Special "Burt Bacharach '74"......Blimey 42 yrs ago !!!
It also featured Roger Moore and The Harlem Globe Trotters.....it just seems like yesterday.
I remember putting a cassette recorder next to the TV to tape the sound when it was aired.
(no Video or DVD Recorders back in those days)
Love to see all the Bacharach TV Specials "officially" released on DVD/Blue ray one day.

Thanks for posting Roberto it brought back so many happy memories.

PS
I seem to remember Burt playing Basket Ball with The Globe Trotters on the show.

Blue, I've got this special on DVD, unofficial of course. Also features BB with a load of kids singing 'The Green Grass Starts to Grow' with changes in the lyrics to make it less romantic.

pljms,
It's 42yrs (gulp) since I've seen that Special and if my memory serves me right "Green Grass" opened the show with Burt in some kind of studio built "Park" ?
All those Bacharach Specials were so lavishly produced, I can't imagine any TV Company spending that amount of money today.
And wasn't Burt dynamic in his younger days !

Golden memories.

Yes, exactly right, a studio 'park'. I believe that most if not all these specials were filmed in the UK by Granada TV and I have most of them in 3rd or 4th generation form on DVD. One of the shows I don't have features Vikki Carr's coupling of 'Make it Easy on Yourself' and 'Knowing When to Leave', and here it is. Yes, by the end she's close to tears as was her wont in those days:

I could easily understand why Cissy was jealous of Dionne. Makes total sense, considering their career paths.

So this is what Bacharach was apparently so dismissive about:

I have just posted "Please let go" by Stephanie Mills, which was the only track from her "For the first time" album of Bacharach/David songs which wasn't yet on Youtube.

"Please let go" was the final track on the album, but is arguably one of the best tracks. I usually find the tracks on most albums get worse and sound more tired towards the end, but maybe that's just me.

For those of us who've yet to hear Josie James perform 'Are You There' during a Bacharach show.

Bonjour Sara D.

I heard Josie James sing this chestnut, “Are You There with another Girl”, in San Diego in 2014!

It’s another great Chestnut from Burt Bacharach’s & Hal David’s song book!

Dionne Warwick takes this song to another level!

The Orchestration on that song is just incredible!

Thanks for posting.

Take care;

Vincent

The beguiling, beautiful and talented Bobbie Gentry always seemed like an unlikely contender when it came to having a No.1 hit with a Bacharach & David song, but she achieved that feat in the UK in 1969 with I'll Never Fall in Love Again. Remarkably, six months later she was back in the UK Top 40 with another Bacharach & David song, performed live on the BBC's Top of the Pops:

Martin, I remember watching this ...bloody hell 46 years ago ???
Bobbie was great !

I've just realized watching it again how difficult Burt's melodies are to dance to. lol

Martin & Blue, I too loved Bobbie Gentry and how wonderful it was of the BBC to give her her own TV series in the late 60s. Here's her utterly mesmerising performance of 'Ode to Billie Joe' from that series.
