Warner Vaults

Maybe David Nathan can answer this question. I remember either reading a magazine interview or hearing Dionne discuss her move to Warners and the "new album" she was finishing up (Dionne '72). I seem to recall that she mentioned that she, Burt and Hal were finishing up the tune selections for the album and she stated that she had cut (I believe) fifteen or sixteen tunes and that ten to twelve would be chosen for the album. David Nathan has had free access to the Warner vaults and all of Dionne's recordings. If there were additional recordings, where there any new BB/HD compositions and if not what was culled from the project? I would love to know. Also, David may know what was also culled from Dionne's sophmore project for Warner's "Just Being Myself." There were eight cuts on that album and that seems a little short to me. Were there additional tracks that Dionne laid with Holland/Dozier/Holland? Just curious as to what artifacts and studio chatter are available on the old Scepter and Warner masters.

Also, I remember reading a bit from a movie magazine when Neil Simon and Burt worked together and recall from that bit that Burt and Dionne recorded one tune in an aborted session around the same time that Gladys Knight recorded the wonderful "Seconds". The tune was titled something like "He Walked Through the Door" or something. Has any unfinished work surfaced?

Also, with the Very Dionne expanded edition, David mentioned that an empty tape box was found in the Warner archives dated around December 3, 1969 (around the time Dionne and BJ recorded together) that indicated Dionne first cut "Everybody's Out of Town" which was cut a few weeks later by BJ Thomas. Wonder if that has ever surfaced?

I have written before about "California", a tune that has grown on me, and wonder why Burt did not slow the tempo down by about 30 percent. The lyric is killer Hal and visualizing a slower tempo in my head (hard for me to do) makes the tune even better. Great it is at the recorded tempo, though.

i'm sure the liner notes on both these releases wil inform us of tracks still in the vaults , Arista must have unreleased tracks in their vaults too.

i'm sure they will all surfce someday hopefully in a box set

a lot of these tracks are called "ghost tracks" and are not released until the passing of the artist and i for one hope Dionne has many more years to go.
