I`ve always wanted to hear the lyric to "Dancing Fool". I think Anthony Newley was very much under-rated.
As I`ve written before, I wish Burt would open up his archives before he goes. There`s so much that hasn`t been released and should be.

Looking at an old copy recently of Tony Newley's 45 from 1963 of 'There's No Such Thing As Love' I noticed that the song is actually credited to a pair named Fraser and Hackney. Knowing that Newley was born in the Hackney district of London I think we can safely assume it's him using a pseudonym. Here's Newley with a song he co-wrote with Leslie Bricusse, 'Feeling Good', of which of the famous recording by Nina Simone my father used to say, "If that's what she sounds like when she's feeling good, I'd hate to be around her when she's feeling bad".

Speaking of the under-rated and nearly forgotten, you should see the documentary film, What Happened, Miss Simone.

Blair, the Nina Simone film documentary has been shown in the U.K. by the BBC in recent times and it's brilliant.

In common with many great American artists, I think it's fair to say that Nina Simone was and is more revered in the U.K. and in other parts of Europe than she appears to be in the US. Stories of her erratic temperament are legion, of course, and I think a pretty lengthy book could be compiled of Nina stories from all the musicians, promoters and club owners who ever had to deal with her mercurial, diva-like behaviour. In performance she could be exceptional if in the right mood. If she wasn't then you were in for a long evening. I was there at Ronnie Scott's the night she famously came on stage at the start of her set dressed in a mink coat but with scruffy trainers and carrying a plastic shopping bag! Ronnie Scott often joked that he blamed his back problems, his thinning hair and the fact he now constantly jumped at sudden noises on the cumulative effects of trying to keep Nina happy during her annual three week residency at the club. In fact here she is performing at Ronnie Scott's, happy and on great form.
