"Dionne Warwick's Christmas Show"
Someone tell Dionne-that-there are four important elements to any
concert, the place (venue)and the audience, and the musicans on stage
and finally the legend/icon Dionne Warwick in the center of the stage
or even pacing it briskly as she did on her opening night in Vagas.
She was a wow!
Dressed in an all white pant suit with rhinestone piping on the the
collar, cuffs and buttons Dionne took the stage, literally and the
audience along with her. After two smart Christmas Carolls she
informed and delighted the audience with this quip 'enjoy YOUR show',
and enjoy they did.
This venue was sold out, and for good reason, she was back, back from
the world tour, back home in the USA and happy to be back in glitter
gulch. She was missed.
With full throat, lots of bounce, she appeared to be happy to be
back, she sang them all, from the 60's, 70's, 80"s, interspursed
with "my daddy's favorite Christmas Caroll", and other
seasonal favorites, and then more of her hits, a relaxed Dionne
opened her throat with emotion on both the high and low notes, and it
was apparent she could sing anything and almost did. She was happy
(she had a hard year with several losses)
and yet smiling throughout and joking about how she decorated the
Christmass trees on stage right and left. It was a Dionne Warwick
celebration, and everyone celebrated along with her.
Her musicans were excellant, with new arrangements for the new/old
tunes, they had her bounce and joy in playing for her, it was not
work, it was JOY. You could tell! The lighting was excellent that
showcased both Dionne and her music extremely well. The sound
was perfect (clearly she had her "chops" in perfect working order).
Dionne controlled it all and all let her.
Her finale and her signautre(no false finale) dazzled the audience to
the degree that everyone stood on the last number (That's What
Friends Are For) screaming and I do mean screaming "BRAVO", "YOU GO
GIRL", All hearfelt and this from a audience between 35 and death. It
was the best Dionne Warwick Event in decades. 2006 will be her year,
just like 1979 was her year.
Dionne was back with bounce and happy.
YOU GO GIRL!
