Burt's horse raced yesterday

Post by Rio »

First, what the LA Times said about the race yesterday. (Sounded like Burt and Jane's horse would be an "also ran.") Then, the race's result.

Sabre Baby makes Inglewood debut

Sabre Baby has won four times this year, matching the number of 2006 victories of the four scheduled to oppose him in the eighth race Friday at Hollywood Park.

Owned by Michael Dubb and trained by Rick Dutrow Jr., the 5-year-old Kissin Kris gelding will make his Inglewood debut after having run 10 times in Florida, New York and Maryland earlier in the year.

Idle since finishing second in an optional claimer at Laurel on Oct. 4, Sabre Baby will try 1 1/4 miles on the turf for the first time in the $50,000 optional claimer. He will be ridden by Victor Espinoza. Dutrow will be seeking his second win of the meet, having scored with favored Fete on Sunday.

Victory Sign, a 3-year-old Thunder Gulch colt, is the only member of the small cast who won his last start. Owned by Gary and Mary West Stables and trained by Bobby Frankel, Victory Sign prevailed by a nose at today's distance Nov. 19. A winner of two of his last three, the Virginia bred will be ridden by David Flores.

The field is completed by Like a Tiger, Mino Ona and One Off, who is winless in six starts this year for owners Jane and Burt Bacharach and trainer Neil Drysdale.
