Dionne (1971) Ambassador Soul Classics CD reissue

Post by EricMontreal22 »

I finally picked up this album--saw it VERY cheap by chance after keeping an eye out for it for a year. I like ti much more than I expected though I knew most of the Bacharac/David songs--sorta fits in with their Lost Horizon soundtrack with quieter, more contemplative songs.

The remastering is great but anyone else hear a "thud thud" sound at about 35 seconds in CLose to You? I guess that's from the original recording environment?

'71 (They Long To Be) Close To You

Eric-
Here's a link to the 1971 Dionne version of Close To You sans the thud heard at 35 seconds (always bugged the hell out of me too).

I realized afterwards it was 1972 ;) but thanks--glad at least it's not just my copy. So was the thud in the original pressing too?

Missing songs

Eric-

The thud you mentioned sounded suspiciously like a dropped microphone to me. Hard to imagine they kept it in the original recording, but in those days of live recordings studio time was at a premium so maybe they just kept going.
More than happy to share the Lost Promises songs with you, now to find the Hot Food, Loyal, Resourceful and Cooperative demos (the other songs cut from the original score) and/or the songs cut from the '72 Dionne release (And Then You Know What He Did, And Then We Walked Through The Door and Plastic City).
