Festival Gala Slated Saturday
Friends of the Arts (FOTA) celebrates Opening Night of the Long Island Summer Festival with a Gala Celebration on Saturday, June 26 at the spectacular Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. Guests will enjoy cocktails, dinner and a silent auction in the festively decorated Hay Barn and then stroll to the FOTA Pavilion for a concert by legendary composer Burt Bacharach, starting at 8:30 pm.
With a hit-single track record spanning four decades, Burt Bacharach became one of the most important composers of popular music in the 20th century.
Marian McPartland serves as Honorary Gala Chair. A resident of Long Island, Ms. McPartland has been performing professionally for 65 years, delighting audiences with her engaging artistry in clubs and concert halls around the globe and on scores of recordings.
The Opening Night Gala is FOTA's most important annual fundraising event and provides critical funds for ongoing cultural programming and arts education programs. Throughout the year, FOTA presents a variety of programs in schools across Long Island, using the arts as a vehicle for learning through their dynamic, multifaceted ArtReach programs. They also present chamber music concerts at Coe Hall, the Long Island Summer Festival, the Long Island Jazz Festival, the Beethoven Festival and other events for the public during the year.
Tickets for the Gala are $500 each and include VIP seating for the concert and valet parking. Cocktails and a silent auction begin at 5 pm in the air-conditioned Hay Barn. Dress is casual. Tickets are also available for the concert only; FOTA Pavilion tickets are $55 and $45; lawn tickets are $25.
