“Legend”

Star Date: November 14, 2009

Place: “Rahway N.J.”

Time: 8:00 P.M.

Super Nova: Ms. Dionne Warwick

“Prelude”

The word ‘legend’ has been give to many in their field of endeavor. But in my humble judgment, Dionne Warwick epitomizes a legend!

In 2010, Dionne will be going into her 6th decade as a truly gifted singer! I must say I’m fortune that when Dionne was recording all those great Bacharach & David songs in the Golden 60’s, I had the pleasure to attend a few of her concerts! It was always joy at that time to hear Dionne on my 45’s and the radio. Well the joy is still with me!

“Special Quest”

At the start of the concert Dionne came on to the stage and the audience gave her a warm applause. Dionne mentioned tonight there will be someone on the stage, who would share the spotlight with her. We all know Dionne doesn’t need an opening act. The person that started the show for Dionne was her oldest son David Elliot. Dionne was so very proud to have her son with her that night!

David sang 3 songs for the appreciative audience. The last one was his favorite that was a stand out for Luther Vandross, ‘Here And Now'. By the way, if you did not know it, David co-wrote that song!

I don’t know what it is in the Warwick family genes, but David has got it to! David mention that he is a police office in LA and many people know him through his famous mom. David is very funny. He sang a lyric that said, “You have the right to remain silent.” This brought a laugh from the audience.

“An Evening With The Legendary Dionne”

Dionne opened her show with, ‘Close To You.’ This was a departure from the classic, ‘Don’t Make Me Over’ that I heard her sing over the years. Dionne did not mention either Burt Bacharach or Hal David in her performance that night. I felt that to be a little strange.

Dionne took the audience down memory lane with some of her chestnut songs. I would love for Dionne to add a song or 2 that was not a major stand out. Missing from the program that night was, ‘Reach Out For Me’, ‘Train Boats And Plane.’ I could go on and on. But you only have 2 Hrs, not 2 days!

Dionne’s Musical Director and her piano player Kathy Rubbico was once again @ wrap speed! This was during the, (Brazilian) ‘Do You Know The Way To San Jose!’

David joined Dionne on stage for, ‘I Will Say A Little Prayer.’ Also 'That’s What Friends Are For.’

I still get goose bumps @ the conclusion of, ‘I’ll Never Love This Way Again!’

Epilogue

I was really satisfied with another Dionne Warwick concert under my belt! Looking forward to next year to seeing Dionne again!

Took a couple of photo of Dionne & David performing together on stage.

Also after the show, was able to talk with Rob Shrock the keyboard player that also tours with Burt. Yes it official all you Burt Bacharach fans. Rob told me that Burt is working on a new CD! Rob did not give any details. When I see Burt in January 2010, I will asked him, when he expects it to be release.

Thanks for the review, Vincent. And, of course, Dionne is a legend. That's a given.

And how great that you can confirm that Burt is working on a new CD. It'll give me something to live for now!
