Question about structure of song MAgic Potion

Post by steveo_1965 »

Dear fellow members...
I know that a lot of you won't be able to answer this question, as its kind of
technical one, based on the sheet music, But I 've been hearing Burt and Hal's
song "Magic Potion" (I assume it's Hal) on this clip from Burt's first special(1965)
The british group "The Searchers" play this song and in the arrangement
there's a part where the singer goes "Oh, PLease, Oh Please help me....
Now the first please its a plain IV chord, but on the second "please" the guitarist "fortifies" it with a dominant 7th...so if the song were in the key of "d"...he would play "g", and then on the second "please" he rhythms a g7th on it.
Im wondering if Burt wrote in his original lead sheet or the published sheet music
has a dominant 7th over the 2nd please, or in the piano harmony underneath...
An inquiring mind wants to know! lol
