What's the story behind this version (?) of "Make It Easy On Yourself" by the Isley Brothers?

Are You Lonely By Yourself:

grooverider,
This song was included on a superb compilation CD "The Sound Of Bacharach" that was issued a few years ago.
Here's some info from a excellent website.

Blue, I'm sure you must listen to 'Sounds Of the 60s' on BBC Radio 2 and if you were listening this morning you would have heard Jerry Jackson's 'Tell Her Johnny Said Goodbye', which at the very least is an 'influenced by' 'Any Day Now'.

I heard the Jerry Jackson record this morning too, Paul, and was intrigued to say the least! Joe South's song 'I Knew You When' is also 'inluenced by' a Bacharach original, this time 'Anyone Who Had A Heart'. In my opinion this is even more shameless and here it is sung by Linda Ronstadt, who, irony upon irony, went on to record 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' itself a few years later.
