Another rare Dionne track from 1974....composed by Burt Bacharach and Bobby Russell.

Another shining example of "WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN" during those Warner Brothers years if Burt, Hal & Dionne had continued to work together under the terms of their contractual agreement. Although Hal did not provide the lyrics for this and the other 2 Bacharach cuts on the recently released Warwick CD "We Need To Go Back" - it's easy to imagine how Hal would have contributed to Bacharach's evolving compositions along with Warwick's vocals being in top form at that time. …. Just listen to all of those previously unreleased 19 tracks! ………. It's easy to understand the frustration Dionne and Warner Brothers experienced as a result of the professional breakup following the disappointment surrounding the "Lost Horizon" project.

Ron,
It's just a shame that these wonderful tracks have remained unreleased for almost forty years, and are only now just seeing the light of day,and as you quite rightly say....what could have been ?
The mind boggles !

Hi Enormous,
I just wonder how many more unreleased Bacharach songs are gathering dust in the "vaults" ?

One would be too many!
But you're right. Especially considering what a perfectionist Burt was and is. He may have not released a number of truly brilliant compositions thinking them unworthy.
Speaking of which, I wonder if it ever happened where Burt didn't want a song released and Hal did?
Also, I wonder if Hal ever gave Burt a lyric and then Burt wrote a tune to it that Hal didn't like and then Burt decided to write another tune to the same lyric?

I tend to doubt that there are a lot of unreleased songs, but there are surely innumerable unreleased recordings. I still recall Nikki Jean (No, I still don`t know her) recalling her moment of witnessing Burt singing and conducting an arrangement of their collaboration. How many more are there like that?
Note, too, that none of his A&M re-issues included any of those now familiar "alternate takes." Granted. many of these are obviously of little interest to any but "completists" regardless of the artist in question and serve only as an excuse to re-re-re-issue an album already in plentiful supply (Kind of Blue leaps to mind).
Not to seem macabre, but depending upon Burt`s control of his legacy, I wouldn`t be surprised to see a lot of posthumous "previously unreleased material."

Blair,
I'd love to hear Dionne's version of "Everybody's Out Of Town"....... where ever it may be ?

I meant, also, to make the point that work like this is why I find the more recent compositions somehow falling short. Nothing from the Some Lovers project (or any other song I`ve heard in this century) comes close.

Blair,
I agree with you up to a point, Burt and Dionne were at the height of their powers during the
sixties and seventies but the songs from "Some Lovers" were beautiful, in particular "In Ogni Ora" ("Every Other Hour") which I thought was truly Magnificent...but then what do I know ?

Blue, this is the perfect example of what I mean. I realize that I`m not being very articulate about it, but this thing just sounds...conventional. There`s nothing of the unpredictable or surprising in it. That`s what I`m missing in the post-PFM compositions.
In addition, I have always loathed this clip because it looks like the singer`s lawyer has come out to make a final plea (lol).

Blair,
I respect your opinion, and you are right, Burt's recent songs have none of the unpredictable
qualities of his 60's and 70's music...but "Every Other Hour" still sounds great, well to my ears anyway.

PS
I can't wait to hear the new songs Burt is writing with Elvis... "Painted From Memory" is a Masterpiece !

To refute my own argument (or to provide the exception that proves the rule), there`s this:
It`s been posted here before as has my wish to hear an instrumental version. This is just a lovely melody.
