Question #3

Hi everybody,
I saw on the internet that Michael Brocken wrote a book about Burt: Maestro! The Life of a Pop Genius. Is this book about his (private-)life or about his music and work, or about both. Is this worth buying and/or reading?
Greetings, Werner.

I bought the book and read it. I think it is awful. It is not a biography but is an analysis of Burt's music. That's what drew me to it. But reading it was nearly impossible - full of over-wrought sentences, run-ons, incomplete phrases, and not-too-well connected ideas. He clearly had some wonderful insights, but the book reads like someone took the author's notes from class (he is a musicologist in England, if I'm not mistaken) and stitched them together hastily to produce a book. I don't doubt that the guy knows a lot about music and a lot about Burt. He just needs to learn a lot about writing. Steve
