At This Time to be released Nov. 1

Columbia Records is scheduled to release At This Time, Burt Bacharach’s new solo record, on Nov.

1. Here is the press release announcing the record. Also, I’m told there will be a very limited edition of vinyl LPs available, so if you’re a vinyl aficionado or a collector of all things Bacharach, keep your eyes out for that special limited release.

U.K. release of At This Time announced

The latest news…At This Time, Burt Bacharach’s new, long-awaited solo album, will be released in the UK on Oct. 31 and in the US on Nov. 1. Sony is developing an official website to promote the record.

At This Time, Burt Bacharach’s new solo CD, is scheduled to be released in September on Sony UK. A correspondent on the Bacharach discussion board says the album—which features 11 new songs cowritten with Tonio K and Dr.

Dre among others—may be released as a dual CD/DVD and despite the scheduled release date, it may not be released domestically until January 2006. More info as it becomes available…

New CD of original material announced

Burt Bacharach’s long awaited new solo CD, his first solo collection of new material since 1979’s Woman, will reportedly be released in late October on Sony UK. The CD will apparently showcase some of Burt’s recent collaborations with Dr. Dre, the first of which turned up on Chris Botti’s 2003 CD A Thousand Kisses Deep. Stay tuned for more details.

Elton John to sing Bacharach at Vandross tribute

Elton John will sing a posthumous duet with Luther Vandross on “Anyone Who Had A Heart” and Aretha Franklin will perform “A House Is Not A Home” on a new CD honoring Vandross to be released by J Records on Sept. 20. So Amazing: An All-Star Tribute to Luther Vandross will also feature performances by Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Jamie Foxx, Donna Summer, Usher, Mary J.

Blige, Wyclef Jean and more.

Dionne on Arista


Compiler Wayne Dickson writes that Legends, a new budget-priced three-disc collection of Dionne Warwick’s Arista material (1979–1993), will be released in the U.K. on Aug. 29. The first comprehensive collection of Dionne’s Arista period, Legends includes a wealth of Bacharach-Warwick material from the 1980s, including “Finder of Lost Loves,” “That’s What Friends Are For,” “Stronger Than Before,” “Stay Devoted,” “Love Power,” “Sunny Weather Lover” and more.

Cilla Black

Stephen Munns, webmaster of CillaBlack.com, writes that two new decade-spanning compilations of Black will be released on Sept.

5, 2005. The first, Cilla in the 60s, features two Bacharach compositions: “Anyone Who Had a Heart” and Black’s original recording of “Alfie.”

Luther Vandross

The music world lost one its finest performers on Friday with the death of vocalist Luther Vandross. An eight-time Grammy Award winner, Vandross was a favorite of Burt Bacharach, who had taken to dedicating concert performances of “A House Is Not a Home” to Vandross in recent years.

In addition to “A House Is Not a Home,” Vandross performed a medley of “Windows of the World” and “What the World Needs Now Is Love” with Burt on the One Amazing Night television special and CD.
