Ellie Greenwich, you're missed

Post by grooverider »

Ellie Greenwich passed away from a heart attack in New York on Wednesday, August 26th. Ms. Greenwich, who with her partner (and ex-husband) Jeff Barry, co-wrote many, many classics: "River Deep, Mountain High", "Da Doo Ron Ron", "Chapel of Love", "Be My Baby", "Then He Kissed Me", "I Can Hear Music" and "Baby I Love You".
Ms. Greenwich worked out of the fabled Brill Building in New York that also included Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil as songwriters in residence there, too. She also worked with Neil Diamond early in his career, one of the very few female producers at that time (the mid-60"s).
What an full, musical life she led: working with people like Neil Diamond, Phil Spector, Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, the Crystals, The Ronettes, Ike & Tina Turner and the above-mentioned songwriters!
Ellie Greenwich has left us with a rich musical legacy that will be enjoyed as long as music is played.

Hey Steveo, She's one of my musical heros. What was she like? What did she tell you about the Brill Building era? She must have had an enormous amount of stories working with so many musical giants!
I very much treasure her album of Brill Building covers, "Let it Be Written, let It Be Sung".
