‘Promises, Promises’ Gets Broadway Revival

Does Broadway have room for one more Neil Simon show? The musical “Promises, Promises,” for which Mr. Simon wrote a book adapted from the script of the Billy Wilder comedy “The Apartment,” with a score by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, is headed back to Broadway for its first revival there since its original production in 1968. Publicists for the revival said that it would star Sean Hayes (of “Will & Grace” and the recent Encores! revival of “Damn Yankees”), above left, and Kristin Chenoweth (“Wicked”), above right, in roles played by Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine in the film and by Jerry Orbach and Jill O’Hara in the original Broadway run. The revival is to be directed by Rob Ashford (the choreographer of “Thoroughly Modern Millie”), making his Broadway directorial debut. It is scheduled to begin previews at the Broadway Theater on March 28, with its opening night set for April 25.
