Are Sandy and Another Time really by Burt?

Post by petrim »

While working on a personal compilation of songs by Burt Bacharach to go along with the book, Burt Bacharach: Song By Song, I noticed two songs attributed to Burt Bacharach on some compilation CDs aren't listed in the Library of Congress listing in the book. The songs are Sandy (performed by The Swinging Blue Jeans) and Another Time, Another Place (performed by Patti Page). Moreover, I found several references on-line to the song Another Time, Another Place being written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans.

Anyone have any idea if these songs are really by Burt Bacharach, or are there some erroneous songs on some of the recent Bacharach compilations?

Mike,
Let's go to Ascap- www.ascap.com Ace on the web, anmd fiond out if these songs are listed.
Just do a search by typing in the name of the composer(select composer instead of title)
and look at the list and see if these 2 songs are on there.

Thanks. I checked, and neither of those songs is listed for Burt Bacharach. I wonder why they were included in those compilations. Perhaps the original record pressings had errors on them.

"Sandy" was indeed simply a misattribution by a sloppy compiler of a Burt anthology CD. "Another Time, Another Place" is a trickier situation...early pressings of the original 45 do indeed attribute the song to Burt & Hal. This most likely was a result of Burt & Hal being stablemates at Famous Music to Livingston & Evans, who indeed did write the song. Hope this clears things up!!
